He's far too cheesy.
That's the main problem, IMO, with Cena's character. He's too quick to mug to camera or make goofy comments to the crowd. Sure, his main fan base is the young kids who probably think it's the funniest thing ever, but he could still get over with that group AND get some fans with those in the crowd old enough to shave if he dialled back on the happy, hand slapping routine. Didn't WWE learn anything from The Rock? When he came in as Rocky Maivia he was doing the exact same thing as Cena does now and that lead to chants of "Rocky sucks" and "Die, Rocky, Die"
