Re: Football Chat Thread PART II : Sun Sep 29, 2013 10:09 am
Lord God Jose Mourinho wrote:
Isn't Moyes MASSIVELY better off starting as Man United manager with Fergie's seal of approval than he would be by standing by his record?

I don't think there's a shadow of doubt that Moyes NEEDS Fergie's approval. Man United fans would have gone mental over the appointment of Moyes if this was simply a Glazer appointment. The only thing that has protected him from the derision of United fans is that Ferguson was seen as the man who chose him.

With Ferguson at the club Moyes can probably get through a season or two of under performing without getting fired. If the pressure builds on Moyes, Fergie can stand up to the board and tell them to give him space, he can tell the fans that they need to support their manager. He can point to the fact he was given four years to win the cup, 7 to win the league. He can say that fans wanted him out before he was successful. He can buy Moyes time, no one else can.

The Glazer's needed Fergie on their side so that the fans would stay and pay back their massive loans. They needed Fergie to lie and say that they were good custodians of the club. They tell Fergie to pack his bags and walk away from the stadium he built and he's not going to spin that crap any more.

If Moyes wants a 30m player in January, he's got a far better chance of being able to get him if he's got Fergie backing him up than he has by himself.

Jose Mourinho cast a shadow over Stamford Bridge from the moment he left until he came back. Fergie will do the same at Old Trafford. Manchester United simply cannot keep him away if he wants to be there.

You think Moyes is a good manager and he'll do a good job for United, given time. Fergie evidently thinks that. IMO as long as Fergie thinks Moyes will come good, he'll be kept in a job. It won't matter what the press say, it won't matter what the fans say, Fergie will say he knows better and Moyes will have time to come good.

Without Fergie at MUFC, if the press have their knives sharpened, if they fans get restless because they don't like getting smacked by Citeh and done at home by West Brom, then the decision comes down to the Glazers. And they know F A about football.

Moyes has got a better chance of getting a £30m player if Fergie is backing him. But eventually he'll want to buy a player that Fergie doesn't really like. I doubt that Fergie would tell Glazer not to buy him, just not look terribly enthusiastic about the idea.

That was the biggest criticism that was made about Busby as a director. That effectively he exercised a veto on player recruitment. That's got to undermine a manager, unless his predecessor is formally given a D of F title.

You said that United should have appointed Mourinho, but if Mourinho had a request to sign a £30m player turned down and he later found out that Fergie had been asked his opinion on the player, how long do you think it would take Jose to pack his bags?

Moyes performance so far as manager has been abysmal. He has no 'game' off the field (all he does is gush about what a great club and a great bunch if players it is) and he certainly hasn't had any game on the field where it matters so far either.

Man united could end up relentlessly persisting with a man who isn't up to the job simply because fergie fancies him, and whilst you would be a fool to question the opinion of ferguson.........he also sign djemba djemba.

Man Utd below 2 of the promoted 3, crazy. Early days, but looking like the top 5-8 could be massively open. Could Arsenal & Spurs really both vie for the title? Could there be an all London top 3?

Chelsea will still win the title.

Arsenal still have the same old problems they are just on a great run. As soon as things get tough and they aren't on top form they'll drop points. Ditto tottenham. At which point chelsea, who will have stayed in contention despite being pretty indifferent will start to click into gear as mourinho and his young guns finally settle in. Man city are vety up and down. Scoring lot's of goals, but also conceding stupid games. They won't be able to last the distance with chelsea.

If Moyes wants a 30m player and Fergie doesn't think the player is good enough then I'd expect Fergie to tell Moyes he doesn't rate the player. I wouldn't expect Fergie to be stopping transfer bids happening by his facial expression.

I think Jose would have the prospective purchase already approved by Fergie before going forward. If think if Jose wants a player and Fergie didn't like him they wouldn't go forward with it, but they'd be keeping tabs on the players future performance. If the player gets transferred for 50m the season after then it's a case of fine wine for Jose, if the player ends up playing for Watford it's a case of wine for Fergie.

I think Jose and Fergie can have proper conversations about football issues knowing that they are at the same level - with Jose still paying due respect for Fergie's status as the most successful boss ever. The same simply cannot be said between Moyes and Fergie.

This season is the first year that Moyes will be hopefully (for him) maintaining a title challenge and competing in Europe with an aim to win the CL. He's never maintained a title challenge, he's never actually been in the CL, but he's got to learn to do both without one screwing up the other. Jose's been doing that nearly every season he's managed. Pellegrini has some experience, but not at the hard edge, but for him the pressure isn't as intense as getting through the CL group stages will be an improvement. But Moyes is experiencing this for the very first time.

For much of yesterday's game City played better than they did against United. It was one of those games that you left wondering how on earth the result turned out as it did. Viewed in isolation it might be considered an aberration, a freak result. But its the second away game that City have lost after being in the lead. Whilst the performance was miles better than against Cardiff it seems there is a problem with players switching off, thinking the game is won. That should be a problem that can be dealt with.

While I think Mata, Hazard and Oscar are exceptionally talented and capable of playing beautiful football, I don't know whether they are what title wins are made of. We've won the CL with Mata and the EL with all three, but we've finished 6th and 3rd in the last two seasons.

On the plus side, and I'll whisper this, that Fernando Torres looks a ****ing good player. At this moment in time he has rightfully made himself our number 1 striker and I've been happy with nearly everything he's done this season. I half expect him to crumble quicker than Arsenal's hopes of winning anything and I don't want to be like Arsenal fans and be getting excited over the merest hint of success, but at the moment this season Torres has performed massively better than he has EVER done in a Chelsea shirt. I've always thought Jose was good, I didn't think he was that ****ing good.

I'd have Citeh as slight favourites, Chelsea as second and United as third. But I think this season it is far more open than it has been in a very long time.

David moyes says his side lack the world class players to win the champions league.

More good 'game' from moyes in the press. Hopeless.

Sunderland, the only PL team without a win so far. So you know it's nailed on for them to get all 3 points against us today......

Di Caneo has done a real number on them, even the most experienced manager will have a job on his hands.

Management by hand grenade, just who the f*ck did di caneo think he was?

Not this week.

Hopefully they win next week though. They play at home to Man United, probably with a new manager.
