Lord God Jose Mourinho wrote:
Seriously? You think that Sir Alex Ferguson, the most successful manager ever in British football, the man who brought United 19 titles and 2 CL's, you think he shouldn't have a role at MUFC? Seriously? Think about what you're suggesting. You want Malcolm Glazer and their new chief executive to sit on one side of the table and say they want SIR ALEX FERGUSON to walk away from Old Trafford.

I'll just let you retract the suggestion. Because quite frankly there is no defending it.

Sure, Busby had a negative influence on the club when he stayed around. But Fergie will know that well. He'll know not to hamper Moyes. But Fergie should be at Man United for the rest of his life, if he wants to be. Man United now have Bobby Charlton and SAF on their boards. Two of the best statesmen and legends the British game has ever seen.

I think Mourinho would have been fine with Fergie being on the board. Mourinho has always shown Fergie the utmost respect. And then he usually went and beat him as well. Mourinho would have no problem with Fergie because they are both legendary managers. I think Moyes might have a problem working under Fergie because Fergie is a legend and Moyes is a lightweight.

But the only way that Moyes appointment holds up is if he does have Fergie's patronage. Fergie's told the supporters their job is to support Moyes. The Man United fans have accepted that, even though deep down they know they've replaced a Crisitiano Ronaldo level manager with a Valencia level manager.

TBH Fergie's major mistake was to tell the press about Rooney wanting to go and have it hanging over the club the whole of the off season.

Fergie will make comments when he wants to make comments. Further healing the problems surrounding Rooney will be one of the times he makes comments. Fergie will dictate what he says and when, for the good of Man United.

I don't need to retract the suggestion. As you said, Busby had a negative influence, so will SAF, even if he doesn't try to.

If Moyes decides in January that he needs to spend £30m on a new player, one that wasn't on Fergies, shopping list, dont you think that Glazer or Woodward will be unable to resist the temptation to ask SAF "What do you think?"

Still can't understand why Moyes chased Feillani after those bids for Fabregas failed.

He could have got Christian Ericksen for a lot less, and a proper playmaker to boot.

12th place...still early days but enjoyed the wailing of some on the phone ins. :)

Isn't Moyes MASSIVELY better off starting as Man United manager with Fergie's seal of approval than he would be by standing by his record?

I don't think there's a shadow of doubt that Moyes NEEDS Fergie's approval. Man United fans would have gone mental over the appointment of Moyes if this was simply a Glazer appointment. The only thing that has protected him from the derision of United fans is that Ferguson was seen as the man who chose him.

With Ferguson at the club Moyes can probably get through a season or two of under performing without getting fired. If the pressure builds on Moyes, Fergie can stand up to the board and tell them to give him space, he can tell the fans that they need to support their manager. He can point to the fact he was given four years to win the cup, 7 to win the league. He can say that fans wanted him out before he was successful. He can buy Moyes time, no one else can.

The Glazer's needed Fergie on their side so that the fans would stay and pay back their massive loans. They needed Fergie to lie and say that they were good custodians of the club. They tell Fergie to pack his bags and walk away from the stadium he built and he's not going to spin that crap any more.

If Moyes wants a 30m player in January, he's got a far better chance of being able to get him if he's got Fergie backing him up than he has by himself.

Jose Mourinho cast a shadow over Stamford Bridge from the moment he left until he came back. Fergie will do the same at Old Trafford. Manchester United simply cannot keep him away if he wants to be there.

You think Moyes is a good manager and he'll do a good job for United, given time. Fergie evidently thinks that. IMO as long as Fergie thinks Moyes will come good, he'll be kept in a job. It won't matter what the press say, it won't matter what the fans say, Fergie will say he knows better and Moyes will have time to come good.

Without Fergie at MUFC, if the press have their knives sharpened, if they fans get restless because they don't like getting smacked by Citeh and done at home by West Brom, then the decision comes down to the Glazers. And they know F A about football.

Man Utd below 2 of the promoted 3, crazy. Early days, but looking like the top 5-8 could be massively open. Could Arsenal & Spurs really both vie for the title? Could there be an all London top 3?

The notion that Mourinho would use Manchester United as an addition in his CV IMO is ludicrous. I think Mourinho would have been looking at a minimum of 15 years as MU boss, winning at least 10 titles, 3 CL's and 10+ cups.

That's a bold (and strange?) belief given that he's not spent longer than 3 years anywhere so far. Any particular basis for that thinking?

I admit they're unlikely, but you never know. The way both Manchester sides have started their seasons could quite easily range anywhere from champions to 5th. So far, if anything long-term happens to either Kompany or Rooney they look like they'd struggle to manage that.

Title and CL in Portugal. Move on.
Title in England. Move on because the owner is a fool.
Title and CL in Italy. Move on.
Goes to a Megaclub in Spain. Wins title and makes progress, but he hates Spain and Spain hate him.

Say he wins another 2 titles at CFC and decides to then move on. Where in hell is he going to go? He really would cement himself as a short term manager and nothing more.

I think he's at CFC long term now (unless Roman goes mental AGAIN). Germany is the only other decent league, Pep's there so it's a non-starter. On top of his amazing success in his opening decade I now think he wants to show he can win titles and stay at a club for a prolonged period of time. IMO Man United would have been better and preferable for him than CFC, but circumstances didn't work out so he's looking long term for us instead.

Personally I think the only thing that gets Jose out of CFC is if in a couple of years, with 2 more titles and possibly a CL in his belt, Man United have sacked Moyes (who STILL hasn't won anything) and is willing to match his CFC salary and spend properly on players. Then I think he could still go to United. I think if Jose wins 10 titles in 15 years at CFC the "world" will still sneer at his achievement and say it was all because of Roman's money. I think if he wins 10 in 15 at United and gets one or 2 CL's then he goes down in the history books as the greatest manager in the history of football.

But I also think there would be a chance that if Man Utd call in 2 years time he'd laugh at them and tell them where to shove it.
