| Liverpool are making a complete and utter show of themselves. The club has no class, it's players have no class and the majority of it's fans are lacking the ability to have their own opinion. Forever the victim.
What makes me laugh is the suggestion the FA have only punished him because it's a United v Liverpool issue or worse just a Liverpool issue. They conveniently forget the often ridiculous back bending by footballing authorities over Liverpool, such as changing the rules whenever they fail to qualify for Europe.
Why can't Liverpool just accept the verdict without appealing? It's not like they are in the running for anything in the PL this season and they are just about safe from relegation so why not just take it on the chin? The club is pathetic. Another woeful performance from him too tonight. A massively overrated player who will end up at a minor Spanish side in a year or two.

The allegation of racism at the Battle of SB may not have come from Evra, but his fingerprints were all over it.

I don't know if there's anyone on this site who hates Liverpool more than I do, but if there is someone who hates them more than me then I'd be surprised.
But from the evidence that has been presented so far, I think it's a harsh punishment.
Liverpool are a bunch of hypocritical, whiny pity mongers, but that doesn't mean they don't have reasons to complain. I WANT the tribunal to publish cast iron proof to show that Suarez is a vile racist, I want this to be a fair case, but from what has been published so far I'm not sure that's the case.

But the player admitted he used "that word" aka "i did it", maybe if he was found to be a racist then he would have recived a life ban who knows? Rememeber he has been found guilty of "using a racist word" which the FA feels deserves ONLY an 8 game ban.
What is worse missing a drugs test (which is passed under 24 hours later) or breaking a law of the united kingdom?

You aren't the judge nor the jury however. What evidence do you want? The evidence is clearly available and has been all along. Suarez said Roddy's favourite Spanish word 'negrito'. The case was only ever about the interpretation of the meaning behind that. It's either a vile, racist put down or a banterish bit of camaraderie depending on who you talk to or which context it's in. The context in question was a highly pressured professional football match between two rivals teams who are full of spite for each other. Evra took offense to it and Suarez admitted saying it, claiming it was the latter of the two interpretations. The FA's panel clearly disagreed and at the end of the day it's probably right to be Evra's call as to whether he's offended by it. It's clearly a word with racial conetations and he admitted using it. Whether he meant it racially only Suarez will know, but it's not like anyone can take his word for it.
The article linked above is a good one, the Liverpool smear campaign against Evra is absolutely pathetic and totally out of order. It's a complete character assasination with precious little proof behind the allegations they make against him.
Suarez has made his point now, he says he didn't mean it racially, everyone knows that now. So why not just publically apologise to Evra and take the ban on the chin? Given how the FA behave these days they will probably increase it.

| Excellent display by United tonight. Phil Jones is buy of the season for me so to lose him for 6 weeks is a massive blow. Rooney and Berbatovs goals were all class and I thought Nani was superb.
The other two rivals won but at least one has to drop points tomorrow.

Evra accused the ref of racism when he was being booked. Evra accused Suarez of racially abusing him 10 times during the match. I think Evra instigated the whole situation when he threw himself to the deck to get a free kick rather than give away a corner. Evra inflamed the situation by confronting Suarez over it afterwards. When Suarez offered his arm in conciliation, Evra withdrew it with a remark about him being a South American. Evra has supposedly made far nastier comments towards Suarez.
I don't know the context of the phrase that Suarez used. I don't know the other word he said when he said negro. I haven't seen the context explained.
I think it's a massively slippery slope that one racist comment can get an 8 match ban, but a player can make hundreds of vile, disgusting comments based on other things without any recrimination whatsoever. I think that it gives players of other ethnic origins a licence to make nasty comments continually to rile their opponents, and if the player bites and replies with one sentence with the word black in it then they're sitting out two months of the season.
From the reports of the incident that I've read so far I actually think that Evra was at least 50% to blame for the situation, and actually much more to blame than that. But because he has the race card he's now the innocent victim and Suarez is a convicted racist who is having his season destroyed.
That just doesn't sit with me.
If Suarez had just racially abused Evra without any provocation then I'd say the ban would be justified. But from the reports released so far I don't think the ban is a fair and just punishment.

| Was actually discussing this at length with some Liverpool fans last night. Suarez has admitted to the word he used so there is no case. 8 games is rather harsh, but racism is the big thing at the minute with JT and the Sepp Blatter incidents and I just think the FA have said "lets give him the maximum ban so it looks as though we don't tolerate it" If it was a Wigan player I'm not sure I'd be able to argue and would want the club to do the right thing and discipline him as well. Liverpool have instead decided to stand by him, produced T-shirts etc and it comes across that they are condoning it. I heavily doubt they would condone racism but that is how it appears.
Evra has admitted to abusing Suarez and so he should be fined and banned as well (to what extent I don't know) because as LGJM says it opens a can of worms. So will Suarez getting off with it on appeal, although I think he will.

| Quote Roddy B="Roddy B"Liverpool's statement is pretty much spot on. Absolutely amazes me that the FA can take such punishment to Suarez, yet allow JT to lead the national side when there was clear evidence of Terry making a blooper. Eight games, deary me, I can't wait to see the 'facts' of this, should be hilariously bent.'"
No, it isn't, it's incredibly ill advised. They haven't even seen the written reasons yet and they've gone off at the deep end. There should have just said this:-
Quote Roddy BLiverpool Football Club are surprised and disappointed with the decision of the Football Association Commission to find Luis Suarez guilty of the charges against him.
We look forward to the publication of the Commission's Judgment. We will study the detailed reasons of the Commission once they become available, but reserve our right to appeal or take any other course of action we feel appropriate with regards to this situation.
We will make no further comment on this matter.'"
The whining and comical 'Luis has lots of black friends' line in the rest of the diatribe is laughable. It was also a very bad idea for the Liverpool players to wear t shirts with his image, name and number. Undignified and not befitting of a club of Liverpool's stature. They should have waited for written reasons then appealed and maintained a dignified silence in the meantime. EE is right - whoever drafted that, or more accurately, approved it (on the basis that their lawyers probably did), should have some very difficult questions to answer this morning.
As for the incident itself, I guess we'll know for sure if they publish the report but my guess is he called Evra a naughty word. We'll never know whether he did so for banter or because he is ignorant of what the word means in Europe (odd considering he played in Holland). I suspect he got an 8 game ban so could they reduce it to 6 but considering Rooney got 2 for swearing without using any racist language it's hardly draconian.
Oh, and Dalglish looked like he was on the edge of a nervous breakdown last night. Get your money on him resigning by next June, especially if Liverpool miss out on Champions League again (as seems certain).

His lawyer has announced predictably that they will be appealing
however 'Speaking at a news conference in Uruguay capital Montevideo, Balbi said that it would be Liverpool's lawyers who made the appeal to the FA.'
Given the communications coming out of the club thus far, I'd guess that's Yosser Hughes and Terry from Brookside who'll be representing him

Why what is acceptable or not nowadays. Is the word coloured to be stricken from our language? This is getting fukcing pathetic.

| It seems to me that Liverpool could have diffused this situation if they had acted sensibly from the start. Once Suarez admitted to them that he had used the term "negrito" they should have immediately made a public statement, explained the cultural background and apologised to Evra, on behalf of Suarez and the club, for any offense that might have unintentionally been caused.
What they should not have done is acted as if Evra were the bad guy in all of this and that Suarez was the wholly innocent party. It may well be that "negrito" is not a racially offensive term in Uruguay but how the hell was Evra supposed to know that? And they certainly shouldnt have issued a statement suggesting that it was simply a case of Suarez's word against Evra (all that guff about a crowded penalty area) when Suarez had already admitted to using the term. And they absolutely shouldnt have allowed the official club website to perpetuate the view that Evra was playing the race card.

| The whole reaction to the Suarez ban has just shown us that deep down, football fans don't care about racism in the game. All we care about is our club. If a player from your club racially abuses another player (whether it's in a jovial context or not) it's ok and much a do about nothing.
Personally, I think the word that Suarez used is vile, and I dont care if it's acceptable in South American culture or not.
If I went to Dubai and copped off with a bird on the beach , started snogging her face off and had a bit of a grope I'd be arrested if caught. If I did that on a street in Manchester on a Saturday night I'd probably get a high five. However, that doesn't mean it's right to do it over there. Its disrespectful to that culture so they take action.
Just because casual racism is accepted in Uraguay doesn't mean that it should be over here. Much the same as my missis can wear a short skirt over here but can't in the UAE.
