Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

Kagawa is a fantastic, behind the striker player. Debatably a 10. He is not a creative/passing central midfielder who will start the attacks from deep, dictating play.

I know it's early doors but I'm happy with Liverpool's start. Best start for 5 years I think I read this morning.

Mignolet has had a good start and contributed massively to the two wins. I was cautious of the Toure signing but he's been a rock in the centre of defence in the two opening games.

Disappointed with the inability to kill teams off when on top, against Stoke it could have should have been 3/4 goals. Yesterday we didn't make as many chances but should have when we were so on top in the first half.

Big test next week against United, interesting to see how tomorrow goes for them.

Ha - I'm not getting ahead of myself don't worry.

Like I say, next week will give us a bit more of an idea of where we are but for me as many points we can pick up without Suarez the better. So far it's 6/6 so can't complain.

Hart was a bit suspect last season at times. It's a shame there's no-one really who will be able to give him any serious competition for that England no1 shirt.

Rumour has it that Suarez is going to sign a new contract this week. Of course it's a rumour, but if he does stay you'd have to admire how they've dug their heels in and basically told him he's staying. If he buckles down then him and Sturridge will be a good pairing, much to LGJM's annoyance, no doubt. Moyes doesn't have a great record against Liverpool but he's got a better squad to work with now, i can see Utd nicking it 2-1. If liverpool DO win though... i expect the optimism will grow and grow, until they draw 0-0 at home to someone like Hull

Not really. All it proves is that there hasn't been a single top club interested in Suarez. Arsenal are the one and only club to have shown any interest and Suarez was desperate to join them, despite the fact they won't win anything either.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Man United, Chelsea, Man City, Juve, Napoli, PSG and Monaco. All the cashed up or massive clubs and not one of them had any interest in signing Suarez. Of course no one wants him, after the embarrassment he continually causes for Liverpool and himself.

The fact is Suarez is desperate to leave and no press release post contract-signing can cover that successfully. The most likely scenario now is him signing the deal with a big vomit inducing 'I love the fans' soundbite and quotes from Brenda saying he never wanted to leave, then him doing something incredibly embarrassing and running off to Uruguay to slate the nasty British media for hounding him out of the country.

It's a very similar situation to Tevez now. Why don't Liverpool just sell him to Arsenal and move on?

There's still 5 days to go. Anything can happen between now and the end of the window.

I think Liverpool holding onto Suarez will be remarkable, but I think they've been helped massively so far by the fact it has only been Arsenal who've only registered an interest. TBH I can't really understand why Chelsea aren't looking at Suarez, and I think Real should be considering him as well as a cheaper option to Bale.

Arsenal are a poor option for Suarez and I'm still not convinced that Wenger was doing anything more than BSing his fans by chasing him. I think that Arsenal have believed that there was a 40m clause in his contract and thought they could nick him for that. Now it's emerged there is no clause their interest has virtually disappeared.

If he buckles down then him and Sturridge will be a good pairing, much to LGJM's annoyance, no doubt.

The Chelsea support is mixed about Sturridge. There's a lot of people who think he's not good enough for us, think he has a bad attitude and don't care now he's gone.

I think there's a significant minority of CFC that likes Sturridge, thinks that CFC handled him awfully and that the club need an absolute kicking for selling him to Liverpool. That's the group I'm in.

So I'm really torn between wanting him to come good and the fact that that if he does come good he's coming good for you lot.

I'm really mad at CFC for giving you Sturridge. I really need him to do a Cantona at the United fans next week and get a long ban to save me from being very peed off this season with every goal he scores for you.

Moyes doesn't have a great record against Liverpool but he's got a better squad to work with now, i can see Utd nicking it 2-1. If liverpool DO win though... i expect the optimism will grow and grow, until they draw 0-0 at home to someone like Hull

I don't want to get all Keegan, but I'd love it if Moyes lost to us tomorrow and then lost to you at the weekend.

Re: Football Chat Thread PART II : Sun Aug 25, 2013 10:28 pm
100% is a United fan LGJM.

Regarding Suarez, I think usually there'd be a queue of clubs waiting for him, but with Falcao, Cavani, Higuain and Tevez moving out of the 'top tier', as well as the likes of Soldado and Negredo going for hefty fees, it's probably hard for a club to justify going for Suarez when there are many better 'fits' available. Suarez is a world class player, but a lot of big teams in Europe have an abundance of attacking midfielders and generally want a striker to lead the line and get the goals, Suarez isn't that traditional type of forward, so with him sitting there with £60m above his head, I'm not surprised nobody else has come in for him.

There's talk Madrid are going to make a late move but he's already been told he's going nowhere, unless Madrid included a fab player that was actually willing to move to Liverpool (highly unlikely any of their better players will take that leap) I'd stand our ground and tell him to wait until after the world cup.

I think Suarez could improve almost every side in Europe but I don't think there are many sides that need him. Madrid could really do with him, I've never been convinced by Benzema since he's been there despite playing quite well, if they signed Ibrahimovic, he'd play spectacularly well with Suarez.
