Are Newcastle having laugh, valuing Cabeye at £30 million? Fair enough to reject a bid of £10 million, but what has he done for them to justify saying he's worth 3 times that much?

Interesting tactic from Man Utd, get one offer refused for being too low, so go back with the same again plus another even further under the market value for a second player. Wonder if they'll now go back with £30m but throw in Barklay?

They are saying they don't want to see unless they are ridiculously compensated for their loss.

Given Arsenal's history of buying cheap French players and then shifting them one fairly quickly (Anelka being perhaps the best example) then I can't see what the problem is.

Add on the fact that Arsenal are in big trouble and Wenger could be looking at the sack, I think they are right to turn the screw. Arsenal have been awful in the transfer window, just suffered an embarrassing loss and they've told everyone what a huge pile of money they have to buy players. They also tried to be funny with Liverpool offering 40m plus a quid.

Any club dealing with Arsenal right now have a chance of making them pay through the nose.

If I was Cabeye I would be itching to get out of Newcastle, the way they are playing here! Looks like my bet of Pardew being the first to get the sack could come off if they carry on like this!

Was he left out tonight because of the bid by Arsenal?

Pathetic management from Pardew, but one wonders if Wenger is topping up his Arsenal wages by helping Manchester based clubs. He gives RVP to Man Utd last season and he softens up Newcastle today for City.

I'm not sure the blame lies only with wenger. The people behind the scenes at arsenal simply don't appear to have the nous and ability to broker the deals.

Going after cabaye is panic buying, if they had wanted him they would have signed him 2 months ago, but now it's all gone tits up they are scrapping around. It's like a couple of seasons ago when they p*ssed around signing arteta and mertersh*tter after a summer of nothing.

To have that much money to spend, to be able to offer CL football, and not sign anyone, is completly incompetent. It's incompetence of the highest order and it's going to send the club into a down spiral. It's only a matter of time before another club nicks that 4th spot, and if and when they do, they won't mess around, they'll get the players in and go on from there, arsenal will struggle to wrestle it back.

We didn't even have a shot OFF target in the first half. Hence my ennui. That and the godawful football being dished up by a manager who tries to convince everyone that we're being given caviar and quail eggs served on the thigh of a dusky handmaiden.
