First greyhound tip in ages and hopefully it will not have the same awful outcome as Eye On The Storm's career ending injury in The Derby.
The Ladbrokes Gold Cup starts on Monday's Monmore Bags meeting and it
looks a fairly uncompetitive renewal compared to most years.
The tip, Boolavogue, generally races at further trips but was track record holder at Wimbledon for a time at 480m (the Gold Cup distance) and also won a first round heat of The Derby and is no slouch from the traps and will also be finishing better than most of his rivals. He faces 4 Monmore dogs in his heat but Ballymac Ace aside they have not performed to the same sort of level he has and I think given a clean run race he should progress. He is a tried and tested competition dog and over the 3 rounds of this contest looks to have a touch of class not many others posses.
The best bit, he is 33/1 as the bookies no doubt disregard him as needing further, they may be right but at those odds I see him as a cracking bet and if he does beat Ballymac Ace (who is 5/1 outright) in his heat there will be nothing like those odds available going into the semi finals. He is also fairly fresh after competing in a Hove competition last month and whilst I would have prefered him to have had a look round Monmore again (he raced twice there last year winning once in the semi of a 630m competition and getting crashed into at the bend ruining his chances in the final) his spin round Romford should have got him ready to perform.
