Most people in Europe just seem to care about their club sides and this is probably starting to filter into the players deep down, who knows, all i know is the quality of international football is gash compared to champions league

With it being at the end of our season, it is obviously more physically demanding on the European-based players. A lot of the South American sides do have some homegrown players, but I just feel there's a general togetherness and confidence in those sides. It seems that players have found a bit of pride in playing for their nations, they've put their egos aside and they're just focused on playing football. I've no doubt one or two will implode and go out with a bang (I think Chile will get mauled by Brazil and end up with two/three sent off), but there'll definitely be a South American side in the final. Uruguay seem to have had little hype/press coverage, but they've been very good without showing all of their true quality, IMO.

South American football resurgent? All teams through with only one defeat, Chile losing to Spain tonight in a game that could actually have gone either way, happily they went through anyway because they are great to watch.

Obviously Argentina and Brazil have always been powers, but the others have disappointed over the last few tournaments - they all seem to be more than the sum of their individual parts, in direct contrast to some of the European "powers".

The South American sides have played the best football and been the best sides so far. One of them has to win it.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Japan go far. That Honda looks a quality player.

They'll maybe get past Paraguay, but no further than that I don't think.

Not had chance to post my bets lately, but I've had a couple of decent days, and I've just about broke even.

Today's double: Uruguay and USA to win @ 4/1

Diego Forlan first goal and Uruguay to win 2-1 @ 30/1

He's class. Lit up Dutch football with a spell at VVV Venlo early last season before CSKA came calling. The third Japanese goal the other night against Denmark... Wonderful stuff and so unselfish.

Shocking goal conceded by South Korea against Uruguay. No idea what the keeper was doing.

Another howler for the Korean equaliser, keeper and defender got in each other's way. This really is turning into a World Cup to forget quality wise.

Then the Korean keeper nearly takes it over his own line!
