Its got to be a concern that the huge increase in black players in recent decades hasn't seen a corresponding increase in black managers. Clearly there would be a time lag but we're well past the stage when that could be a factor. The ratio of black managers to black players just cannot be justified.

Its instructive looking at the experience of black players and coaches in the NFL. For decades there used to be a view that "black players couldn't play quarterback". Then a few black quarterbacks such as Warren Moon dispelled that myth and very quickly black quarterbacks became commonplace. That was followed by the view "black players can't become head coaches". Again a few succesful black coaches changed that perception.

I think it only needs a couple of black football managers to have some success and we'll start to see a rapid acceleration in the number of former black players going into management. Its just getting the process going that's the problem, which is why there are calls for some form of affirmative action.

The NFL introduced the Rooney Rule to encourage the employment of black head coaches. I'm not sure that would work here, simply because the appointment of football managers rarely complies with any formal recruitment process. But surely it cannot be denied that there is a genuine problem?

It can't be denied that there is a lack of black managers, but calling this a 'problem'? Why? Calling it a problem is, in a round about way, saying there is still some form of casual back-handed racism whereby chairmen or whoever won't take on a black manager because of his skin colour. Is this REALLY the case? There are black players, and black EX-players who live with some sort of chip on their shoulder, almost with a sense of entitlement. They are more than happy to spread this around too. a few years back, a DVD of England's greatest players had to be pulled from sale because Paul Ince complained there were no black players included. He should be aware that playing a period of a match in Rome with a bloodied bandage on your head does not mean you belong on a 'Greatest Players' DVD. If more black managers come to the fore, then great, bully for them, nobody should notice the colour of their skin though, their ability is what should count, and if you're black but not good enough, don't put it down to your skin colour.

Hypocrisy knows no bounds unfortunately. Collymore IMO is an excellent pundit, one of very few on TalkSport, talks a lot of sense. He is however very prone to becoming very uppity about racial issues, dismissing and retweeting anybody who seems to hold a different view to his own. Joey Barton...needs no words. I'll be honest, i've never heard of Paul Davis, he's from slightly before my time, but he seems in the same boat as Barton in the way that he's got no room to talk. Even before i looked at his profile on that link, i had a feeling he'd be somehow involved in the elevation of black people in football. Why is there the attitude of ''we NEED more black managers in football'' by the way? Isn't everybody supposed to be there on merit. not just for tokenism.

Davis was by no means a dirty player or a gobshite nobhead off it iirc, however he threw a punch and broke someone's jaw (thats the haymaker lottery if you throw a punch). I can't remember him being involved in anything else controversial either on or off the pitch unlike Stanley Victor or Collymore.

Collymore likes the sound of his own voice and uses big words to make out he's had an educayshun - he actually talks a lot of cobblers if you analyse it - anyone can find big words in a dictionary and learn their meanings - he sounds intelligent but he's a big mouthed lout who proclaims he's 'one of the lads' when really he's just a highly paid attention seeker with some serious psychological problems

Re: Suarez

Dear Mr Rodgers/Liverpool FC

If said player hadn't been a cheating little runt previously and gone down like a whore on several previous occasions, he may be awarded penalties.
