Not that I'm a Bears fan but i'd probably take Orton. (neither are exceptional though).
I have no idea why there is talk of trading him. He is infinately better than Tebow.
Cutler has the worst parts of Favre, in that he will throw it into ANY coverage and gets intercepted a hell of a lot. Plus I just wouldn't want the game resting on his shoulders as I would with Rodgers/Favre/Manning/Brady. In contrast I feel Orton is more consistent and would be the better QB to have if you already have a fairly decent team to surround him.
I like Cutler (I think he is actually very funny) but to me he just seems to be somebody who'll sulk rather than inspire people.
Yes Orton is one of those who knows how to do a job, work a system etc and is reliable. Even if he isn't exceptional I think he's good enough to take a good team to the playoffs although he won't carry a franchise. If you put Orton in say the Denver team of the late 1990s with TD and Shannon Sharpe in it I reckon they could have still won Superbowls.
Cutler...like you say he's funny but he comes over with an indifferent air of someone who has already realised his dream (play in the NFL) and he doesn't seem to have a burning drive to win Superbowl like Elway did. I know its harsh to compare people to Elway but it's not just on field ability....Cutler never portrayed himself in a good light when he was at Denver even before the fall out with McDaniels coming in. That hyped up 'feud' with Philip Rivers was a case in point...Elway had a big rivalry with Marino from college days but their rivalry was based on mutual respect, when you see Rivers and Cutler mouthing off at each other and then using the media to carry it on you just think what a pair of overrated tossers.
I'm surprised that some of the Bears fans (on other forums) seemed to hail the Orton-Cutler trade as potentially the final piece in the jigsaw "at last we have a franchise quarterback"....hmmm
As for Tebow, to use an analogy from cricket, I wonder if he's a Ronnie Irani or Adam Hollioake type player. Those guys were always talked up for their mental strength and inspirational leadership, personal qualities etc, and at county level they were fantastic leaders. But when they were put in the Test arena they weren't quite up to it on technical quality. I have a fear that this is what is going to be the case for Tebow.
I reckon Denver will be about a break even season this year. I will be happy if they get a winning record but don't expect playoffs.
