that one and Porto's don't exist in my book, strange stuff going on (and Porto busted for corruption domestically)

It's an expectation thing. The club's ownership expect progress, the club's fans expect progress and the media pressure to achieve grows very quickly. As I said, I like Martinez and I think he'll progress into a solid manager, but I want somebody with a bit more experience, particularly with managing expectations.

For me, we should appoint a Director of Football first, get everything sorted with what we want and expect, then appoint a manager with a structure in place who understands everything.

Maybe now would be the perfect time for someone like Martínez to take the reins at Anfield. He'd have to go some to do worse than Dalglish and no one expects you to qualify for the Champions League next season. A season to build, a season to consolidate and then the third to challenge.

3 seasons is very optimistic - it took City that long with unlimited funds. We'll be lucky to be genuinely challenging for the title anytime within the next 4-5 years I reckon whoever the manager is given the enormity of the rebuilding required.

So why not give someone like Martínez the chance to shape the club? Do you honestly think someone of the calibre of Mourinho or Hiddink would even turn their head if they agreed that you have no chance of challenging, never mind winning the league within the next five years? Be realistic, think about where your club is and then think about your managerial possibilities.
