No way. I'd have been on moaning about Suarez's cheating. That is the only way Liverpool could possibly beat a side like West Brom.

Real Madrid much the better team but too risky in defence. I think they will take it at Old Trafford.

I sit and watch this United side and wonder just why they are so successful. They should in theory be destroyed when you look how weak they are across midfield. Welbeck is a very important player for them, chases lost causes all game. The fact that he's utterly terrible doesn't matter when you work as hard as he does.

All artists are willing to suffer for their art. So few are willing to
learn to draw.

Someone on the Guardian podcast (Sid Lowe?) was saying that United are a team that defy analysis. I'd agree with that.

This season I think of them like when in cartoons the coyote runs off the cliff but keeps going for a while until he looks down and realises there's nothing holding him up. United keep going on bravado and sheer force of will.

And so you aim towards the sky,
And you'll rise high today,
Fly away, Far away,
Far from pain....

Can't see it, to be fair......That joke of a pitch at Old Trafford will easily nulify Real's attempts at playing quick, free flowing football - United's ability to scrape results when they scarcely deserve it, coupled with a vociferous crowd, will see them home.

Its been that way since Ronaldo left, and, to be honest, you have to have a grudging admiration for the way they continue to defy the odds.

Even in the Premier League, they are arguably inferior to both Man City and Chelsea on a player by player basis, yet they are able to find a consistancy that neither of the other two sides have come close to discovering.

I've lost count of the amount of times I've watched a United game and thought they were there for the taking and somehow they come out of the other side with a favourable result..... Those who think Fergie's departure won't affect the side, might be in for a bit of surprise - I honestly think they might take a serious dip when he does go.

Fergie obviously is pretty good at what he does, but whilst this isn't a vintage United team, I don't think it's very far away from being a very very good one (see anyone of my numerous rants about the midfield over the years)
