The players I wouldn't have taken would be Milner, Downing, Defoe.

I would have taken Richards instead of Milner, Carrick instead of Downing and Sturridge instead of Defoe. Maybe would have gone for someone like Adam Johnson, Lloyd Dyer or Scott Sinclair as an option

richards instead of glen johnson or phil jones, adam johnson instead of downing, crouch instead of carroll, and would've fitted sturridge in there somewhere too.

dunno who downing has been noshing off at FA HQ, but he was statistically worse than obertan in the league last season...
would rather have adam johnson playing there and cutting inside with cashley overlapping than taking the god-awful downing.

Can understand all of the picks in the squad, but would have taken Sturridge over Downing and Richards over Johnson, but I'm not getting overly excited about their omissions.

Downing, although he's been poor this season has always done OK for England, and probably won't play anyway.

I did read somewhere though, that 10 of this squad have never been to a major tournament with England, and Walcott only went to Germany 06 for a holiday, so it's hardly the same players in the squad.

He's been in utterly fine form since his return from injury. It's purely a club reputation thing that promotes Cahill. Jones I can somewhat understand as he can play right back, centre back and central midfield (The later two probably better than the players who are likely to play there, Johnson and Barry).

With the exception of Jagielka the players on standby are all younger players; particularly Jack Butland who has only ever played in League Two.

I think considering the uncertainty surrounding the centre backs that someone with a bit of experience had to be on standby but otherwise the list of standby players is a good place to have some youngsters on the fringes.

While I haven't been overly impressed with Henderson at Liverpool I still think he's a player with plenty of potential and has more chance of a long term future in the England squad than Carrick.
