If we sign him, where is Baines off to? With Garbutt playing in the league cup, Pienaar having Naismith and Mirallas as cover, I really can't see where Oviedo fits in, unless it's to replace Baines.
Garbutt isn't good enough as cover yet.....Oviedo is in (hopefully) as a squad man, though it obviously means that Baines will become our next sale item, either in January or next summer, when the bank calls for their next repayment - By then, Oviedo will be acclimatised to the English game and will slip into the left back berth.
Remember, Baines didn't go straight into our side - He was understudy to Lescott for almost a year.....Of course, in an ideal world, we'll be top 3 all season and gain a Champions League windfall, so players won't need to be sold, but realistically, I think this signing is probably the first link in a chain that ends in Baines leaving.
..... If you ever needed proof that some of them are just a touch delusional....
