If we keep him, I can also see the logic of keeping Dzeko. Dzeko needs service, otherwise, he's nothing more than a talented Emile Heskey. A big target man, who can hold the ball up, for a second striker to play off.
Also, Kolarov is another one. A fantastic deliverer of crosses (for Dzeko to feed off), but as a defender (his job) he's not top 4 quality. What does Bobby Manc do with him, or his he content to bench warm?
I think Van Persie is nailed on for City IF Arsenal don't make next season's Champions League.
A player of his calibre won't not be at a Champions League side and there is probably only City who have the cash to force Arsenal to part.....He hasn't signed a new contract yet, so, in theory, he could go on the cheap, but City have the finances to waive the discount, and a £35 million sort of bid would probably see Arsenal cash in.
He'd also be a massive improvement on either of Balotelli or Dzeko, both of whom could be sold to pay for a large percentage of any fee for Van Persie.
In all honesty CL qualification shouldn't really be enough to keep van Persie at Arsenal if Citeh come knocking. 8 seasons he's been at Arsenal and he's won the grand total of 1 FA Cup. Kanu left Arsenal as van Persie went there, and they both have the same amount of medals since then.
The question I'd ask is whether van Persie has matured into a great player and this will be his level, or has he simply had a peak couple of seasons and he'll be dropping back down from now. I don't watch him enough to judge, but just looking at his stats, I'd want to know he had found his level rather than had a great spell if I was buying him.

Personally, I'd say that if Torres, after his performances at Liverpool, was worth £50 million, then RVP, after his displays at Arsenal, over the last 2 years especially, is worth close to £80 million, because he's a far better player than Torres, and has a lot more to his game too.

He's got 1 year left on his contract.
Arsenal have been the beneficiary of some generous transfers in the past, but I doubt there's anyone who is going to be that generous.

The length of time left on his contract is only relevant to the buyer if only one club wants him and can decide whether to wait or not. Or if there are other players of the same ability that are available and out of contract.
If two or more clubs are competing for him its an auction like any other. He's worth what it would cost to buy another player of the same ability.

I actually thought you were questioning what RVP's abilities were??.....I used the valuation to simply highlight how good I believe he is in comparison with other similarly-rated forwards in the league. I fully appreciate that, because of his contract situation, Arsenal may not get his full value, but as Cibaman points out, its unlikely anybody will get him on the cheap, as its unlikely interest would be limited to just one club.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Arsenal end up with a Dzeko or Micah Richards come the start of next season....

How many transfers have gone ahead at full value with a player with a year left on their contract?
In the last week some div, probably that Winkledick, slagged off Chelsea and said that even with Abramovich's investment Man United had performed far better in the CL.
This has been Chelsea's CL record since Roman bought Chelsea:
Bearing in mind that when the final United won, was won against us on penalties, that we've been up against epic battles with Barca (with usually 10 men) and Liverpool, while Barca have usually ass-raped them and they never faced the vermin, I'd say that the difference is paper thin right now, and if we actually beat Bayern (rather than winning through pens) then we'd be ahead of them.
