Would goal line technology have been conclusive?
The general assumption seems to be that technolgy must be right. But every cricket watcher knows that there's some doubt over the accuracy of "hotspot". Is goal line technology so good that it can make such a tight decision as yesterday's with 100% accuracy?
I think you're wrong about the general assumption.
Technology isn't always right. But it helps to raise the accuracy significantly.
I don't think the lino was sure over the incident yesterday. I don't think anyone can be stood on the touchline with one view of it. I think he made an instant judgement that the ball didn't cross the line, stuck with it, then hoped to hell that he'd got it right. And those feelings would have only intensified when Suarez was stood in front of him berating him because he'd supposedly robbed them.
I'm not 100% sure that the ball didn't cross the line yesterday. From the angles shown I am about 75% sure, but the angles that I saw weren't good enough to say I'm absolutely certain.
With goal line technology there would surely be even better placed cameras to make sure that you could make it as absolutely certain as possible.
