Lucky it wasn't Torres and a ball boy as he'd have missed kicking him completely.

Never mind Torres, just be thankful it wasn't Ashley Williams.

The way he kicks, the ball boy could have died.

Time wasting is not about wasting the 5 or 10 seconds that you waste. It's about pi55ing off your opponents so that they are wasting their energy getting mad rather than concentrating on their game.

Swansea were 1000% successful at that last night.

I'm not even that bothered about the time wasting aspect. Stoke with their towels have been one of the highest profile. You know what they are going to do, you need to ram that nonsense down their throats by beating them on the field, not letting them win so they can wet their pants at how clever they were.

I think we were dreadful over the two legs. We were awful last night. Benitez completely failed in his job. It's just annoying that this helps Benitez deflect attention away from him after a woeful performance. We're 2-0 in the semi of a cup and he does nothing until the 70th minute, where he swaps one centre back for another, then on the 80th he swaps one left back for another.

The only positive I can take is that it's further proof that Benitez is an awful manager and he's quickly throwing away any chance he has of getting the job permanently.

Both player and ball-boy were complete ****s in the incident and both got what they deserved. Discussion ends.

And if the time-wasting from ball-boys at Swansea is indeed a tactic and routine and endemic then Swansea need to be heavily censured/fined/docked points and the ball-boys in question banned from all further matches.

I wonder what Jimmy Hill thinks of it all...

Ball boys at just about every club in that position - two goals up with ten minutes to go in a cup semi-final - would have done exactly what the lad at Swansea did. Just take an extra five seconds or so giving the ball back to the opposition player. Right or wrong, it would happen at any ground in the country.

It's up to Hazard to be grown up and professional enough to just leave it to the referee to deal with and get on with the game. Not go bundling him over then trying to kick the ball out from underneath him like some spoilt, petulant child.

And by the way, did you notice the only member of the Chelsea playing staff who chose to rush up to one of the match officials and give them a mouthful after the red card came out? That paragon of virtue, John Terry. Those on the field seemed to be pretty accepting of the decision.

The kid wasn't bundled over by Hazard, you fool. He was being an booty and keeping the ball away from Hazard so he went over and fell on the ball to keep the ball away longer. He then lay on top of the ball for a few seconds despite Hazard's repeated attempts to get the ball back.

Hazard leaving it to the ref? That ref that was so on top of the situation that he never even saw the incident between Hazard and the ball boy?

I don't know why so many people on Twitter, internet forums etc, are having such a fierce debate about the issue. It was simply a moment of great comedy.

And you'll rise high today,
Fly away, Far away,
Far from pain....

Agreed, it was absolutely hilarious and the more you see it, the funnier it gets.....

I love the way he lies on the ball in a desperate '5-year-old-not-giving-his-ball-back' type of way, and coupled with the fact he had the balls to do it in front of the away end, makes it even funnier.

I'm guessing the majority of 'Soccer Am''s material will be based around the incident this weekend....

Re: Football Chat Thread PART II : Thu Jan 24, 2013 7:32 pm
The world has gone mad. I heard some former FA employee recommending a 10 game ban on the radio earlier.

First things first, the ball boys shouldn't be being trained or instructed to waste time. They clearly are at a few clubs. I've seen a lot this season where the ball boys hand the ball the home team players and throw it to the away players, so they have to reach to get it. Small, petty things like that really annoy me. We've seen cheating going to incredible lengths on the field, we could really do without it happening off the pitch as well. It's a funny event when it happens like last night, but it's unfair on Hazard, who really did nothing wrong, to get banned for it. How far will clubs take these kind of things? Having the floodlight operator on standby was probably Swansea's next trick if Chelsea had pulled it back to 2-1.

Is all the stuff on the internet about the lad true? That's he's knocking on 18 years old and is the son of the Swansea owner and tweeted before the game about being needed at the game for time wasting? If so Swansea should get into trouble over that, firstly for having a 17 year old ball boy and secondly for his actions.

Meanwhile poor Hazard gets a 3 match ban no doubt.
