I remember reading a few months back someone moaning about Ashley Giles being a selector, saying he'll have everybody from Warwickshire in the team, then I see Trott being called up and I'm just wondering; is he deserving of his place, or have his ties with Warwickshire got him in ahead of others more deserving?

Averaging just under a hundred this season which is the second best around. Always seems to do well at County Level and I think he has been on some A Tours although not sure.

No, he's proven at County Level in fairness, probably the last two, maybe three years he's been excellent. That said, and I've sort of championed him before, of the three formats, four/five day, ODI & T20, you'd have to think he's least suited to the longer format. He's a naturally aggresive batsmen that hits the ball hard. What I don't know, and I guess only Warwickshire die hards will know is sort of, is he capable of that 'digging in' innings, y'know. When the Aussies work him over, does he have the temperament to cope etc.

When I've seen him, he's crashed the ball about, you sort of need a bit more than that don't you.

I guess what I'm saying is, he's exciting, he's a strokemaker, but in terms of the mental stuff, I haven't a clue.

Where's he best batting at? Like, will he come in at 3?

I'd say he's a four, Bell to three, he's a four for me. From what I've seen, he's more KP than Colly if you know what I mean.

IF Flintoff isnt fit id put Trott in at 5. The Aussie have to win and to do that take 20 wickets with the bad weather forecast lets just reinforce the batting lineup and bat the 4th test out.

Too dangerous an approach if you ask me, especially seeing as we'd need to do that for two tests. We need to go for the win.

Probably - he is South African after all.

Indeed.

If we are still 1-0 up going into The Oval then I could see an argument for it (though I'd still disagree with it) however I do think Strauss has a natural instinct to be over-cautious and I wouldn't be that surprised to see it happen.

Headingley seems to either do nothing for the bowlers, or a lot - I'd stick with the same team but, if Flintoff doesn't make it I'd bring Sidebottom in if the conditions are likely to suit, if not I imagine Harmison will get the nod if we decide not to go on the defensive.

You can look at it both ways though. Sidebottom comes in who has had hardly any cricket lately and wont be on form and gets smacked about we will be chasing big with effectively 1 batter down and to be honest the onl;y batter who you can garuntee will get runs is Strauss i would go in with Trott and you always have Collingwood who can take they share of Flintoffs bowling

Listening to Flower this morning he said that Harmison was struggling with blisters so they brought in extra cover in Sidebottom. He also said that should Freddie not make it then they would look to bring Trott in as the extra batsmen, which could also mean Sidebottom coming in and Swann missing out. Either way he confirmed Bopara will bat at 3.
