Sad news, it's hard to find anyone in football who is universally liked but he is one of the very few people close to such status, a lot of my early football memories are of his England teams.

I'll always remember his appearance at the Sports Personality of the Year awards a couple of years back, when he collected a lifetime achievement award, it was genuinely moving and I had tears rolling down my face watching him.

what a dignified battle with his illness, a terrible loss for the game.

His Ipswich team were superb.

They certainly were! I started supporting Ipswich (and still do) about 18 months before they won the FA Cup. A great manager and the team he assembled were fantastic. Muhren and Thijssen were my footballing heroes. 2 total unknowns that took the division by storm. They alongside Kevin Beattie, Paul Mariner, Brian Talbot et al were a delight to watch.

Sir Bobby, is a true legend of the game and such a gent. The tribute the BBC did to him at the 2007 sports personality awards was such a tear-jerker.

RIP Sir Bobby, you'll be missed :(

Awful news.

So brave, such a fantastic person.

Always had a smile on his face, always showed such passion and determination in everything he did.

An absolute legend.

RIP Sir Bobby Robson.

RIP Sir Bobby. 'Beat' it on several occasions with dignity and little fuss.

His Ipswich side was a great team.

Played for England, managed England. Will always remember the classic 1990 World Cup campaign. So close.
