2022 State of Origin Game 3 - Contains Spoilers With the series neatly tied at one game apiece the scene was set for the mother of all State of Origin deciders Queensland´s Maroons took on the Blues of New South Wales for the 2022 bragging rights. The Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane was a sell-out in advance of kick-off as a nation held it´s collective breath. After demolishing the Maroons by 44-12 the last time out, New South Wales were the clear favourites for the series win, despite the game being played in front of a partisan Queensland crowd. Had that been a Superleague game, there would’ve been 11 red cards, a combined 127 matches would be missed by the players in bans and we’d have lobbied to make it tick and pass going forward.

We genuinely aren’t playing the same sport anymore.

Thought the same. Plenty of tackles that would have incurred a pen, or worse over here and the righteous would have been saying "well that's the rule", or "what else is the ref supposed to do".

The officials today let plenty go and, guess what? The game was better for it. No one died, the players got stuck in and the crowd enjoyed it.

I really do think the game is at a crossroads - we can go one way, like RU have, or we can follow tonight's type of officiating. RU (a sport I also follow closely) has turned into a parody of pens, cards and TMO intervention. I really hope we don't follow their lead.

Referee Ashley Klein had an excellent game today, seems improved somewhat since his SL days.

Apart from sending players off for punching I would agree.
