“We were clunky but that’s to be expected with so many changes again”
He actually said that, I mean he literally has the nerve to come out with that pure and utter BS every single week. Clunky isn’t scoring two points and not getting in the opposition ten all night, clunky is what Saints are in attack every week. Our show was a sh*t show again. One where the players look totally and utterly lost and devoid of any sort of idea of what the hell they’re trying to achieve.
It has to be the most embarrassing and plain annoying season as a Wigan fan this. There were mitigating factors for 2005 and 2006 and certainly the second half of 2006 was probably as enjoyable a time I can remember as a Wigan fan. This season is just a horror show and Lam takes the vast majority of the blame. It’s a shame that such a great Wigan player will leave now with people chuffed to bits to see the back of him.
As most did, I loved Lam as a player but by god his reputation amongst Wigan fans is in the toilet. Delusional remarks such as the ones above and STILL parading the “we’ll be alright” mantra. Yeah we will, when you’ve f****d off.
The first half of 2006 was horrific. We were devoid of everything we are today except we have better players for the most part. Then we culled Millward and brought in Nobby to steady the ship and backed him with signings such as Fielden and Dobson who without a shadow of a doubt saved us from going down. Nobby re-steadied the ship and lay a platform for coaches like Mags and Wane to take us further. That second half of 2006 was for my money some of the best watching Wigan. I remember the end of Fieldens debut the stadium MC played “Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now” and for a brief minute you’d be forgiven for thinking we were strolling the league.
We need a Nobby. We need a fresh set of eyes, new ideas to steady the Wigan ship. The perfect candidate is Brian McDermott or Shane Flanagan.
I'm 49, I've had a brain haemorrhage and a triple bypass and I could still go out and play a reasonable game of rugby union. But I wouldn't last 30 seconds in rugby league.
If Lam is aware of what this club means to the fans - he would ask for help, he clearly needs it. If he doesn’t take on new ideas – he shouldn’t be there. Everything coming from the club was/is wrong - tactics, players and more importantly Attitude. Smith is a 7 who only catches and passes, doesn’t create so you play him (if you have to) at 1st pivot. That way Jacko can choose what options to pick. Attacking lines - where are they, since Zak said he is the best FB in SL, he has been owned every game, never joins the line to create options unless its in the opposition half (thats why he never joins as we cant get out of our own 25) Go Forward - none existent. Always on the Back foot. Too tired form defending to cart the ball up so we have 5 drives and a kick. Forwards - where do you start, all young lads bar Faz & Bateman - they are being flogged, the days of bringing them in off the bench gradually is gone - they look drained. Backs - too small, Gildart is a liability since he came back, always getting pushed towards touch and then throwing hail-mary passes which dont come off. The back line cant beat anyone - between them they would struggle to beat an egg. Isa after last nights show should never put a Wigan shirt on again, the forearm to Grace, good tackle on Welsby (i think) followed up by another forearm on the floor -finally after 10 mins in the bin, he potentially tries to gouge Percival from the kickoff...if you did that on Kings st in front of a copper, your night would be over. The senior heads- where are they, 1 was in the bin (twice) while another lost the plot.. Jacko was marked out the game as he is the only potential outlet while Faz tried. Recruitment – dire. Name me a star in the team that when they get the ball you get excited like when an Ellery, Offiah, Robinson, Barrett, even Sam Tomkins touched the ball. There is none, we have an ‘elder’ fan base -stars will put bums on the seats and create interest for the next generation but no we sign ‘journey men’ -you always need them but sprinkle the team with a bit of sparkle and you get magic. Before someone says Bevan French is that – forget it. He is good, can step, join the line, but when he is on his own line he doesn’t get far, and when teams kick to him, its close to touch where he is bundled out – he is not the answer. KR – whats his qualification as Chief Executive – having played for Wigan -if that’s the case why don’t we let any of the remaining 1100+ players have a go – at the moment they cant be any worse with regards recruitment. We are in a bad place I’ll finish with this – 2017 Saints had a club legend in charge who couldn’t make it work – The Saints chairman made the decision that had to be done – since then they have not looked back – that’s what leadership is - making informed decisions with all your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). All our KPIs spell out what our club needs to do to get back on track.

Many excellent points but I’d disagree on French. He’s too good for some defences in this league and let’s say Wane is the man next year and we go back to that organised attack, with us doing everything to get quick play the balls away and French will be used as that man sweeping round on the back of those shift plays, he’ll have a field day. Sam Tomkins isn’t a strong ball carrier from his own line and much like Sam, I expect French will hand the ball off in traffic near his own line. He was magic at points last year and that’s under Lam.

Everything else fair play.
i hope your right because I dont think he'll come back as good. It was the same when we had Amos Roberts - outstanding in that season until he was wrapped around the sticks - following year never the same - always had that doubt in his mind. Also with the way Smith is currently playing the ball will end up going to ground - his confidence is shot.
