Good info, cheers! I've always wondered whether we have been missing a trick not tapping into coaching talent in the amateur game. Give Peet a chance I say (no pun in tended!). He hasn't just come in and impressed IL/KR during a couple of interviews, he has impressed them week in week out for over a decade. Having experience coaching a lot of our younger lads ought to help too.

Correct. There’s nothing to say Peet wouldn’t have all sorts of things he’d like to change. It’s unlikely but an inside man won’t automatically keep everything ticking along as it always has done, especially if he like us can see things haven’t been going well.

More than prepared to give him a chance before writing him off.

Agreed. At least give him a chance first. If IL thinks it's the right move then we have to trust him - rarely gets things wrong.

We have made a couple of signings to strengthen our front row so at least we are aware of our problems and trying to fix them.

I would also like to see more diversity around Peet though and experience from elsewhere. Currently our main coaches/staff would be Wane, Peet, Goulding, O'Loughlin and Winder (plus possibly Leuluai in some capacity). Most of those guys only know Wigan and nothing else.

The only other thing is that Peet's main influence is on defence which I hope doesn't have a detrimental affect on our attacking style. Although it can't get any worse than it currently is.

To be honest that could be a positive. He's clearly got in through talent rather than knowing the right people due to his playing career. Have there been any other SL coaches who weren't professional players?

Steve McCormack never played professionally or even at academy level. Although a short career in SL with Salford, he did a decent job at Whithaven & Widnes in the championship and did an excellent job with Scotland.

I would assume that Winder would be on his way out. I would have assumed he'd be ahead of Peet in the pecking order.

If we remember back to the early days of Lam the wheels had or were in danger of falling off the shopping trolley but once Peet returned from Sale things calmed down a little bit so I feel he deserves a chance but as others have said it’s not a big name coach some where hoping for

Maguire and Wane were not ‘big name’ coaches at the time of their appointment. Neither was Holbrook at St Helens or McDermott at Leeds. All had a significant amount of success.

I seem to remember our defence being a shambles until Peet was brought back in and it improved. I wouldn’t mind giving him a crack of the whip. I’m sure he had the idea of brining in wresting to the camp so hopefully shows a bit of thinking outside the box.

I think Wane and Peet will work well together to identify players. I’m sure Peet main focus with be in defence.

I heard another name mentioned outside of the club to be brought in as coach, if Peet appointment is true then this other chap could easily fit the attacking coach role.

I can see Winder being moved on as we seem to have a lot of coaches, as we now have Peet, lockers, at time Goulding and potentially TL joining the coaching staff. Plus if Wane comes back I doubt he’ll stick to signing players.

I believe that Peet will be head coach and Winder will be released.
I also heard at the game last week that Lee Briers is rumoured to be the new attack coach. This is very much a rumour within the club but may have little credence. I am not sure how I would respond to Lee Briers coming to the club as Wires attack doesn't look particularly great and there is the history between Briers and the club e.g. Catalan in the CC semi final at Wire when Briers donned the Catalan shirt.

I always thought that Wane rated Goulding and anticipated that he may become the head coach however, that now seems to be unlikely in the extreme and that he will continue in his current capacity.

Briers is what I’ve heard. I’d always imagined deacon would come back one day. Would be good to see him but he’ll be offered twice as much in union than he would in league

I’d love to have Deacon but as you say he can earn a lot more in union that he could he league even if he came back as head coach.

Peet is a reincarnation of Waney so I’d like something in the mix to counter balance this but really unsure if Briers is any good and will he be able to live up Peet’s and Waney’s very high standards

I think someone new coming in with some new ideas that would complement Peet’s no nonsense style could be a good mix that we badly need at the moment
