Well worth a listen or watch on you Tube.

Very interesting to see his relationship with Shaun Wane and the Maguire effect!!

Listened to this the other day. Was a really good listen, I never realised, despite playing alongside him when he came back to amateur at St Pats, how little he was thought of at Wigan at the time.

Also interesting to hear him speak about moving back to Wigan from NZW and how he probably shouldn’t have done

I listened to it a few days and thought it was really good.
Other recent podcasts from Out of your League have been “messy “ with too many interruptions of the guest but this one was good and Sam was really open and gave some insights to his career. The Maguire piece had some funny tales with even the kitman scared shoiteless of Maguire.

I’d love to think that we could sign him again for the 2022 season but he sounds as if he is in a good place playing wise and lifestyle wise so I fully expect him to extend his time at Catalans

It also shows the detail Shaun Wane goes into in match review / preparation. Those who think he was just a shouter will be amazed. Jon Wilkin says he has never seen anyone go into so much detail. Can't wait to see him back at Wigan.

That was a really good watch.
Sam actually came across as a very likeable character, even for a Rhinos fan that has booed him for many years

And neither would any Lancastrian.

Thanks for posting, very good listen. He's his own man is Sam and I suppose it would have taken a huge offer to get him to stay but in a way, I feel that academy he came through in should have set us up for the next 20 years. One of the best players I've seen at Wigan and is still a pleasure to watch.

Just listened to this podcast and what a listen it was!

It was interesting to hear Wilkin talk about the intensity of the 2010 Wigan side. I hope IFL listened to it, or someone tells him about it, as if that doesn't speak volumes about what's currently wrong nothing will.

It’s only now we can really appreciate what a time of it we’ve had under Maguire and Wane. I’d say it’s my favourite time as a Wigan fan and I’m old enough (although I was a kid) to remember most of the great run of the late 80’s/90’s. The fight and determination the lads show even now is born out of those foundations laid by Maguire and built on by Wane. Sadly the squad has been stripped of quality and experience and we have a coach unable to get the best out of the vast majority of players. The lifting of restrictions on July 19th are pretty terrifying from a Wigan perspective. I get the feeling we’ll struggle to break 6,000 or 7,000 max.

A real eye-opener when he was talking about almost leaving Wigan just because Wane wouldn't give him a chance because of his defence.

Thankfully it worked out for him and luckily he got his chance because of suspensions

It's absolutely insane that we have almost zero skill and finesse in SL and coaches still just want to churn out the same old cyborg tackling-machine 'middle' just to grind out results.

Best player I've ever seen by a mile. Not just his skill, but also desire to win....... That's what set him apart....
