I will not let the team down as they need my support and money and have given me so much pleasure over the years.

Well said I would still support them if they was in the bottom 4.

Looking at the team we’re putting together for next year, you may need to do that

This thread highlights the issue you face if you try to minimise losses by cutting back on the cost of your playing squad. You will lose numbers through the gates. It feels a bit like Lenagan thinks he’s run out of options, especially with the delays in full crowds being let back in. I’ll wait and see where we end up squad wise for next season but the signs are worrying at the moment.

It's also an issue of signing too many players to one year deals.

If you have to keep dipping into the transfer market for key players, then you're eventually going to come unstuck. I don't know any successful side that has run with some many short term deals - especially when you add the coach in there too.

Good on you. Me personally, when i am not paying bills, i like to spend whatever i have left on being entertained and things that i enjoy doing. I won't pay for something that i don't enjoy whether that makes me an armchair supporter, part time fan etc etc i don't really care, it's my money and i work hard for it. I bought a season ticket last season knowing i would be missing lots of games through work but the club made a commitment with big signings so i responded in the best way i could. The club are looking like making dross signings this time around so i will respond in the best way i can again, I.E - Steer clear and watch it on the telly.

I agree with you to a certain extent, although I'll probably still go and watch the games.

For me and I know I've posted this before, there's a certain section of the fan base that's taken for granted and opinions aren't bothered with. I fully know that I'm a product of my time and that there's fans older than me who've seen worse and fans younger than me who only know SL. I'm a fan because I grew up in the golden era, my heros are some of the best to have ever played the game. That's the Wigan standard for me and if those standards aren't being met - then I'll ask myself why I bother, when those in charge don't seem to match those ambitions.

Fully agree. The last few seasons have been so messy. I think the covid situation adds to that but it started with the Wane exit and the Edwards debacle and has carried on with the short term deals key players are being signed to. It’s why I’d want French to take up 3 or 4 more years or just part ways and not take the year. We need to get some certainty in the squad IMO.

I said it last year, but I'd have been more than happy if we hadn't resigned French last year. As entertaining as he is, there's question marks around him plus, the will he/ won't he stay stuff doesn't help.

The money we used on French should have been spent on a prop imo.

Re: Replacement Standoff For Next Season : Sun Jun 27, 2021 1:40 pm
I think he’s a cracking player but we couldn’t afford to have two lads as important as he and Hastings only committing to a year and also missing pre season. That decision has backfired IMO, with French never looking fully fit before his bad injury but also because it felt like we rushed Field out for that first game to cover, after he himself had struggled with injury all pre season and he went down with a shocker of a hamstring issue.

It just feels like we need to start again to me. That tactic of trying to bend over backwards for those lads, to just get a years commitment out of them can’t be repeated. If players want to be here on equal terms to everyone else than great but if not than move on.
