The only improvement in coaching during Lam’s tenure has been the appointment of Peet.
He’s out of his depth and gets found out when it really matters

I see nothing in Lam that remotely suggests he can coach at any level

He’s been a number two in his whole career in Australia and you always feel like there has to be a reason for that. We’re still paying for the Edwards debacle for me. That along with living from season to season on players contracts has just left the club feeling a bit frenetic to me.

It’s funny to be moaning so much when we’re 5 from 5 in the league but weekly round scrappy wins, followed by big game slumps has been common place. Wane got criticism for his style of play but it’s worse now than ever and unlike Wanes time we don’t win anything of note.

I think there's a difference between being a head coach and a coach in the traditional sense of the word.

Powell is the obvious example of a player that he's improved. I actually think Isa and Faz have got better under him too.

I acknowledge Powell albeit not this season
Farrell??
Isa ??

I made my mind up about Lam in Barcelona and nothing absolutely nothing for me has changed.
He’s been promoted way above his actual capabilities

What is his level then? Is he somehow worse than a Peet because that's the level I think he should be at.

I think Isa played his best rugby last year.

His tactics, team selection and preparations are amateurish so I suppose Judes or Pats could be his level

The lack of size and go forward in your pack really showed today imo. Last week you were able to have success by putting some width on the ball. Today wasn't the conditions for that and Hull knew that they had the measure of you in an arm wrestle. It was a very simple and patient gameplan from us and the final score probably doesn't quite tell the whole story of our dominance. It wasn't even a particularly big Hull pack either. Hodgson put all of his big men on at the start, but even amongst those only Satae is the real man mountain. The pack was as small as it gets with Brown, Cator, Johnstone and Wynne.

In good conditions when you can put some air on the ball you are a very good side indeed. But in the wet when you have to roll your sleeves up you just don't have the players imo, and that's something Lam needs to address.

Granted you made a number of unforced and uncharacteristic errors which didn't help your cause, but even without a couple of helping hands I always thought we had the measure of you.

You played the obvious tactics and played them well

Excellent balanced opinion.

He's world cup winning assistant. That's his level imo, but let's say he should be at Judes. After all SL is full of quality coaches - Briers, Long, Orr etc must have a better CV.

I agree, but tbf I also think he's a great coach.

If he was back in the NRL, at the roosters under Robinson he'd be in his element imo.

Oh definitely he is a good coach. The improvement in Powell is hugely evidential to that. Sadly, he’s not the top man.

I dont think you can underestimate the Edwards fiasco enough, would Lam have been first choice if the dreaded deal hadn’t been done and handshakes all round?

To me Lam is an excellent Addis coach not the main man

I’m not so sure Lam would have been the first phone call made when Wane handed in his notice, again though your right it is scrappy Wigan win games in spite of his tactics and selection and frankly Wigan don’t look like they’ll turn Saints over if it ends up another grand final game between the two of them

I’ve based my opinion on his results in games that really matter and he’s had zero succes in any of them. As I said previously the writing was on the wall in his first season at the Barcelona debacle and he ain’t improved much since.

I’m still waiting for his brand of rugby that he’s been promising since day one. Think we’ve got a long wait.
I’d describe our brand as hardworking. Unfortunately hardwork does not guarantee success unfortunately Lam hasn’t got the recipe or the skill sets even if he had the right ingredients

He’s not the first poor coach we’ve had and he won’t be last. It’s a tough job with more failures than successes and yes there is a plethora of average and very average coaches throughout the game it’s just unfortunate that we’ve got one of them too but he’s the head honcho and not the guy who passes the instructions on.

You’re probably correct in that he’s a good assistant unfortunately we’ve a shedload of those and it’s a good No 1 coach that we desperately need.

Thanks, hopefully we can knock them down a peg or two.

And I think you are absolutely right. We played the conditions very well on the whole. I'm just really happy with our attitude at the minute. Especially in defence. I don't think a Radford team would have had the patience to wear you down the way we did today. I'm not used to seeing a Hull team that can defend like that.
