Reports that it's 40% less cash per year than the previous deal.

Where is that slack going to come from?

Anyone else foresee a freeze or drop in salary cap?

Frightening if that's accurate

Just seen this from Matthew Shaw on Twitter. Seems like SL club's funding doesn't drop at all but RFL and Championship/L1 get nothing now.

Superleague clubs will get the same amount as now apparently but less money will filter down to the championship clubs and to the RFL.

Reading what Matthew Shaw is saying Sky have cut games from 80 per season to 66 but there is more freedom to negotiate with other platforms to show games and possibly the potential for every game to be on tv, online etc in some form. The Championship is currently negotiating its own TV deal.

In summary it sounds worrying on the face of it that the price being paid by Sky is down but we have more freedom to now make up that shortfall and even exceed the value of past deals. Let’s hope other companies fancy some of the action.

We need to get the likes of BT Sport and Amazon Prime interested they seem to be the ones with the funds especially Amazon Prime

This could well be an opportunity though somehow I doubt the RFL will have the noise to take advantage.

By the sound of it Sky have 66 games, presumably they have first pick of each weekly round and the play offs & GF but no longer have exclusivity.

That leaves a lot of matches to be sold to other platforms whether that be pay per view or free to air. At the very least the RFL should look to stream them on the our league app.

One of the main things to consider when discussing streaming, is the volume we’d offer up. There would have to be a balance because you don’t want to cut thousands of people off live attendances in the process of streaming loads of games. It’s not been an issue for over a year now but it will hopefully be an issue they’ll have to weigh up pretty soon.

A NUMBER of Betfred Super League games will be televised live for the first time on the BBC - and in a prime Saturday 3pm slot - as part of the new broadcast deal with Sky Sports.

This is fantastic news.
