It really does seem like his time has come and gone. He's massively underperformed since 2015 so I'm amazed he's even still getting head coaching roles.
He took Souths from World Champions to below mid-table fodder in the space of a couple of years. I've always wondered if he would've done the same with us.
The difference between successful teams and one-hit wonders always seems to be how they cope with losing big players which naturally happens when you become successful (the best players want more money but in a salary capped sport).
When Souths lost Burgess to RU they seemed to lose a part of their identity. When we lost Sam Tomkins to the NRL, Wane was smart enough to change the way we played and we still made the GF for the next 3 years. Similarly when McIlorum left - a huge hole left around the ruck in defensive intensity and aggression that we had to fill.
