And anyone claiming that Nobby didn't do the hard work is in cherry and white tinted cuckoo land, As I recall it was Nobby along with his signings that saved us from Relegation Not the precious one they call Madge, It was Nobby that brought us stability and built up a solid team that would eventually win the GF, Not the sainted Madge, Without the hard work that Nobby put into the team then Madge would be nothing more than Eric Hughes MK2.

Strangely, and now you’ve clarified - we agree. No Nobby means none (or fewer) of the trophies or finals we have seen since 2010. Mags added Deacs in the first season which helped bolster the half backs and was a much needed signing IMO. Whether we’d have won SL or not without him will be a forever unknown.

I must have missed it when Madge signed 17 new players and had the club release the players who where under Nobby :SUBMISSION:

Must have Missed Nobby winning numerous trophies with those same players.

They may have been players that players under him, but it was a completely different TEAM.

I still think we would've made the GF or CC Final in 2009 if Barrett had seen out his contract and Gaz Hock hadn't got banned for doing coke.

Noble was already shifting on deadweight when he could (Mathers, Calderwood, Higham etc.) within salary cap constraints but Tim Smith was awful and from memory Leuluai was poor that year.

There were some bad losses (CCSF and losing to Crusaders in especially) but seem to remember Saints getting a couple of lucky calls in the Semi (Long dragging someone's foot over the sideline). One of those goes your way we could be talking about a very different story today. We'd already battered Saints at Magic Weekend and were fairly regularly beating Leeds so not like we were miles away.

I was a big Noble fan and he worked wonders under difficult circumstances and you right it was the same players plus Deacon but Madge moved us on light years in a matter of months. If Noble had stayed with us in 2010 do you think we win the grand final and subsequently move on to start consistently winning trophies?

I'm not saying that Madge was crap, Just that he had all the hard work done for him by Nobby and no, Nobby took us as far he could, But ask yourself this question, Could Madge have done the same if he had come over in 2006

We were a completely different team with almost the same players
I'm not sure what point your trying to make

Yeah, different coaching structures
A different coaching structure, attitude, and lots more

From finishing 6th, 4th and 6th and losing a dozen games out of 27 in the league and no more than a 100 plus point difference (in fact we were negative in 2008) and not making a final in those 3 seasons

To a different "Everything" that lost 7 games all season
1 game by 12 points and the rest by a cumulative 16 points

A league leaders, a grand final win
Nobby had a part to play, Maguire made 3 to 5 years progress in one off season.

Unless Maguire took over from Nobody then he was always going to take over from somebody
But if anyone thinks we would have had the same success in 10/11 & in fact onwards with Noble in charge then they were watching a different club than me.

Moving Sam to fullback was Maguire's biggest masterstroke.
