IIRC Hepworth didn't play against us a for a few matches afterwards. But when he next did play against us, he got a justified pasting. I can't remember who got at him, but it was more than one Wigan player. I have a mate who played for both Rochdale Hornets and Halifax as scrum half in that era . He had just turned 'professional' for Halifax , he was very young, and they were due to play Cas. This mates dad told him not to play against Cas with Hepworth and Hardisty. My mate played , contrary to his dads advice, and was duly 'hammered' and concussed by said pair in that game.

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy

It was after Hepworth moved to Leeds. Tyrer was still playing for Wigan and he spotted Hepworth "defending" behind the forwards but in front of the fullback. Tyrer put a chip kick straight to Hepworth and went after for him, along with about three of the Wigan pack. Every Wigan supporter knew what was going to happen, they absolutely hammered him, I think Tyrer got sent off.

That's horrific. I don't know what's worse, Hepworth not being sent off, or the medical attention Tyrer receives.

Did they not have touch judges in those days? I thought he was really slow to chase the kick at first, but now I'm wondering whether there was one at all, as I don't see one when Tyrer is being helped off.

just watched this for the 1st time

i was thinking exactly the same about the medical attention - give the lad a couple of prods int broken jaw and drag him off

the ref had a bloody good view of the tackle too by the looks of it as he blew the whistle straight away

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

Most idiotic post ever goes to Grimmy..... The way to restart should be an arm wrestle between a designated player from each side.

He has probably followed the ball but I'd be interested to know whether one person has missed it (ie the ref) or two (ie the ref and two touch judges.). I'd assumed we would have still have TJs then but can't spot one on the footage.
