Pretty sure his contract is up at the end of the season with leeds, experienced halfback, as we would like, to go with our younger inexperienced halves and personally i still rate him. He is maybe not on the same level as his cas years, but more then good enough imo.

He’s got a year left at Leeds after this from what I read and the report said Leeds had no plans to let him go but you never know. An experienced head like that would be useful.

Not strong but persistent rumours around Miller and Gale.

I don’t see either being what we need to be honest but of the 2 Miller would compliment Smith much more than Gale as a strike half partner.

Norman may be a better player 'on paper' but Gale and Miller are both proven performers at SL level; Norman is not. And considering he only seems to have one good game in five, I'm not optimistic.

I’m still not convinced it’s signing we need in all honesty. I appreciate the back up sentiment (and Powell/Shorrocks having to fill in) but I just can’t help but feel it’s an area we don’t particularly need. That being said I can’t say I know anything about him, how good he is, his style etc. Perhaps that plays into my thoughts.

Gale feels like it would be a Matty Smith type signing as in we’d be getting a steady pair of hands, a field general able to direct us round the field as with some creative flair. He’s not a bad player by any stretch of the imagination and I wouldn’t be disappointed with his signature - far from it. A steady pair of hands and a field general with a good eye for off the cuff play would be brilliant but I think that’s the role for Harry Smith.

If we sign Norman it’s Field who’s at risk. We sign Gale and it’s Smith at risk. Either way one of them ends up leaving IMO.

I don’t think it forces anyone out personally. You can carry a half on the bench, especially somebody like Field who you can use at fullback or even on the wing. I get people may say we don’t particularly need a half, as we have two on the books but they’re two young halfbacks, two lads who are still quite raw and as we’ve seen with Field, injuries happen and leave you in the mire. Wire are currently carrying a squad containing three international halfbacks and have Ratchford as back up. Leeds next season will have Sezer, Gale and Austin with back up from Myler. Catalans currently have Maloney, Drinkwater, Morgue and back up from Tomkins if needed. We can’t just go Field and Smith and then nothing but Shorrocks or Powell, well we can’t if we want to even contemplate finishing in the top 2 or 3 next season.
