I'll challenge the signing comment. For me, they haven't been that bad. Bateman, Hastings, French, Bibby, KPP are all decent signings imo. We might have needed someone else Vs French, but I'll give credit to say he's entertaining. Hastings is one of my favourite players of the last decade. I'd have loved for him to stay.

Burgess was a mess, but let's not pretend many (myself included) weren't excited for such a big name. Clarke has been poor and I'm not impressed with Singleton.

The difference, imo, is Lam. If Holbrook would have been the coach, he'd have got more out of the lads. Even guys like Hastings, who I've said I think is great, has another level in him.

Pieman,I'm not looking for a row, but if you have a problem with something I've posted, why don't you clearly explain what, instead of just posting emojies?

I might be able to respond better if I knew what you were talking abut.

As I mentioned recently in another thread, what then was the reason for bringing Mike Danson into the fold? Personal wealth of £1.17 billion.

It’s a difficult time for everyone at present and I’m not suggesting we start throwing money around in a foolhardy way but anyone who buys into an RL club, in the manner in which he has, must surely know he’s there to put money in, not take it out.

The next Head Coach position has got to be bang on. We’ve had three poor years under Adrian Lam and if the new man comes in on say a two or three year contract, and fails to deliver, that is too long a time for a club like Wigan. Standards don’t appear to be being maintained.

It's not a difficult time for everyone..

The wealth of the high-net worth grew at the fastest rate since 2003.

Agreed.

If standards continue to slip we’re back to the decline and slow rise from 1998 through to 2010. It wouldn’t take too much money to stop the rot IMO. Just a Head Coach with half a clue what he’s doing and can get the best out of all our players instead of the u8’s tactic of “give it to Hastings/French”. We spent little in 2010 (Deacon) and a little more in 2011 (Finch, Hoffman and Lima). All of which (IIRC) didn’t cost the earth, though a fair whack of the SC, but were unbelievable for us.

I understand the criticism of Lam. In two and a half years we have only won the League Leaders Shield.
However, I do feel that he’s been dealt a bad hand. Our excellent young forwards have given their all but to no avail. Injuries have been so catastrophic that no coach could have had any better success.
You need a good coach and excellent players for success.

He has absolutely been dealt a bad hand in fairness to him. The one year where we had a good quality and relatively injury free squad we did well. 2019 and 2021 have been bereft with problems, several outside of Lams control.

And would the situation been any better in the past three seasons under Wane with the poor financial position and Covid19 to contend with?

Perhaps Wane could see it was time to get out!

I still cannot decide if I feel sorry for Lam. On the one hand we were the only team to challenge St Helens and should have been able to close out that final. On the other hand we have not really been able to fully develop the talented squad that we originally had. Now time and injuries have changed the odds.
