When players like this become available you have to consider the impact they would have on the club.

Given what we were supposed to have offered Williams, there is money to spend.

If Wigan were to sign him I believe we would become realistic challengers for SL next season.

If he was seriously interested in coming to SL (which I doubt) we should move heaven and earth to get his signature.

Whilst I 100% agree, it's worthwhile making a point when it comes to the 'Williams Money' - he would have only cost £75k on the cap. We could in theory offer Tapau the same deal that we offered GW, but the hit on the cap would be huge.

He's a marquee level player tho, of that there's no doubt. Hopefully the club could slide a few things around.

Yep, appreciate that but as you say he is a marquee level player.

If he were to become a marquee player the hit on the cap would only be £150k. At the fans forum, Rad said there was money set aside for a half back plus £73k cap to spare. If we sacrifice the half back, and we’re prepared to pay marquee money above the £150k, then I’d say he’s a realistic target. He’s certainly the type that would put bums on seats.

Unless Marty Tapau is in disgrace for something I cannot envisage for the life of me why he would come to SL yet. 31 years old and must have clubs queuing if he is indeed coming available. It's in his hands I suppose.

Couldn’t agree anymore there. His signing would eclipse that of Trent Barrett’s for me.

That being said I can’t for one second believe he would come to SL given the wages he’d command and the offers he will be getting in the NRL.

Anecdotal but Jacob Miller appeared to be saying his fair-well’s to the crowd after the Trinity game last night.

I think that signing is pretty much nailed on and if so it surely spells the end for Tommy. Smith, Field, Tommy and Miller for a HB spot is far too many.

Uninspiring but as I have said previously I won't throw my toys out of the pram until the club says 'end of business' a stellar prop like Tapau would alleviate my concerns though. Let's see if Hardaker seemingly says his goodbyes on our last game too :? That would leave us up a creek if Hardaker goes and Thornley is the replacement. Might as well put a turnstile on our backline if that is the case. It would be a shift from having a good defence and a rubbish attack to having a great attack and a rubbish defence. Marshall, Thornley, French, Bibby in the backline won't be stopping many try's. Miski looks a unit so judgement is reserved.

I wonder if Hardaker may go the other way…

Horrendous deal if that happens. I’m not down on Miller, I’ve always watched him and thought he has plenty of talent but we’re struggling with the quota as it is. Good quality, British outside backs are in short supply and to lose one in a trade for a decent overseas halfback isn’t business we should be entertaining.
