We’re definitely behind the pack if we’re left with Norman as an option. He’s definitely got talent but seems to be trouble.

Sign of the times I guess. I do get the feeling he’s equally as likely to be a raging success over here as he is to be a pain in the backside and a failure but it does have a feeling of panic about it. We need one however and it’ll have to be a punt at this stage now Williams and Sezer have been snapped up. It was the league live guys and they seemed to be off the mark on Nathan Mason and Renouf Atoni, so there might not be a whole heap of truth it in. They’re saying it’s between us and Catalans (we’ll take Morgue if they can’t find a spot for him).

Do you mean signing a player with off field issues isn't a Wigan thing to do? I'd disagree there. Hardaker, Hock, Andy Powell, retaining Bateman all off the top of my head.

2 years ago Norman was playing Origin.

There are plenty of NRL players who get slammed in Australia for their conduct and it wouldn’t even register as an issue here as the mainstream press don’t care about SL players.

He’s a similar style to Hastings and would probably be a good fit.

Would prefer him to Flanagan put it that way.

Austin would be a good fit and Williams obviously but neither are/were to be.

I’d be comfortable with Norman on a 2 year deal. Nothing more though.

For me this mess started almost 12 months ago with the new deal for French. It just feels like we'd signed Field to be our FB in 2021, but when Bevan decided he wanted to stay we just went with it and didn't think what that meant for Field (who only signed a 2 year deal).

Whilst the club could never have predicted Bevan's injury and him subsequently taking up his option, it's left us in a tight spot. It's probably not unfair to say that French will be our top earner in the backs and he'll 100% play FB next year. That leaves us with very little choice than to take a punt on Field, as its use him or lose him.

The smart option (& granted it's with a degree of hindsight) would have been to left French leave, install Field as our FB and gone in early and hard for a Hastings replacement.

If this is his off field problems I wouldn’t be too concerned. In fact is applaud him for it.

Quite a few drink related issues throughout his career.

Nothing that would warrant a report in the British papers were any of our top players in SL to do the same.

Good point actually when you look at some of those names.

We conveniently managed to get shut of Tautai and Joel Tomkins though
