A purple patch inspired on his home ground by man of the match WIGAN CAPTAIN Sean O’Loughlin produced three tries in an eight-minute spell just before half-time, and the GB Lions added two more after the break to maintain Smith’s 100 per cent record as Great Britain
coach.

The weather is my concern at the moment!

Im also worried about the reaction of us Wigan fans in general if we were to lose this in any manner, the Eddie Jones/Andy Farrell waffle will gather major momentum re: the press.

The 3 friendlies dont seem to have generated anything and we were 13 kids chasing a bouncy ball in the playground last sunday, thats another worry going into this!

I was just dismayed that a new thread had immediately veered off towards Mathers again. The worst thing he did on Sunday was pull out of the 50/50 kick through. Admittedly, that had me fuming but we have far more pressing concerns than Mathers' defence.
At the end of the day that team - including Mathers - only conceded 12 points. With anything like an attack we should have been able to overcome that. That IMO is the overriding concern at Wigan.

Correct!

It had started before he even touched a Ball Sunday!

Our kicking game was woeful on Sunday as a whole and needs a huge imrpovement this week. There was a lot of kicking early in the tackle, mainly from Smith, which resulted in us handing the ball over easily.

One annoyance of mine is all the kicks seemed to go to Roberts wing. Pat has one of safest pair of hands in the League and one of his strengths is catching kicks to the corners...why we persisted in going to the other wing baffled me.

We have struggled with our kick defense over the last couple of years and Roberts was caught out a few times early on in the game on Sunday. I feel safer with Richards at the back, but this is one area that could be our downfall come Friday night.

It seemed to me that Roberts was purposely hanging back for Phelps to tip the ball backwards and fofr Roberts to take it on the bounce. It seemed like something practiced on the training pitch.

Not knocking the idea as it almost worked a couple of times, but why keep going back to the same play when we have one of the best at catching kicks into the corners on the other wing?

We don't seem to play to the players strengths at times. Just two examples, but Calders had a great kick chase, but was rarely used last season, Richards has a great pair of hands, but we continued to kick to the other wing on Sunday?

Oh yeah, and i hope we don't d1ck about for the first 70 minutes and only decide to start playing in the last 10mins when we're 12 points behind. Either turn up for the full 80 or don't bother...

Worries/nightmares:

Defence out wide
Coley playing
No obvious Piggy replacement without switching everyone's positions.
Starting with Hock and Feka

Positives/living in dreamland:

Coley dropped
Hock and Feka making a massive impact off the bench a la play-offs
Roberts having space to enable us to see his pace first hand
Riddell controlling the ruck area
Smith's brave plays come off and he goes from being villain to being hero (think I was the only one who was happy to see something different like crossfield kicks on the 3rd or 4th tackle - shows initiative and should be applauded. Can't win with some people, bored with one out rugby but when we do try something different they compain about that too!)
Wigan demolish Hull and the pressure is lifted off the players and they go on to enjoy their rugby and play with confidence for the rest of the season.

One can dream but I live in hope :D
