Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery.......

I will look to the moment, and miraculously, the future will take care of itself.

Radio 5 Live, Sat, April 14th, 2007,...Dave Whelan, "In Wigan, rugby will always be king"

'I was certain, positive, convinced, and yet..........unsure'

'It's only rock 'n' roll, but I like it'

Worry will not prevent destiny from unfolding.

Horrible news. Wish him luck with his battle with it. Hopefully Wakefield can find him a role within the club because I dont see how he can play again.

Ah poor bloke. Rubbish luck. Can this be 'cured' or is it something that you just have to live with on medication?

It can't be 'cured' as such, but you can take medication to ease the suffering. Extreme cases are solved by, basically, having your small intestine removed.

Half the battle is diagnosing it in the first place - many cases get worse and worse because doctors convince themselves that the patient has a stomach problem, as opposed to a bowel problem, which is what Crohn's disease essentially is.

Either way, it's a bloody horrible condition, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

The perception with everyone from outside the Rugby League Community is that Wigan are still the biggest name in British rugby league.

nasty disease - I had tests for it but luckily only had ulcerated colitis which is still a bit rubbish but not as bad as Crohn's. Medication and a controlled diet for the rest of his life

Unfortunately for him, he doesn't stand much chance of playing in the pack again.

Get well soon richard

I was diagnosed with the same thing last month after a very ill spell so i know how hard it must be for him right now.

There is a chance he could play again but it all depends on whether the doctors can find the right mix of medication for him. just that finding the right meds seems to be quite hard!...

also part of the initial medication is a steroid treatment usually, so id imagine that would mean he's not eligible to play whilst on those anyway?

It depends which steroids he takes. For example there are a number of Asthma suffering players registered with the RFL that take steroids.

If however he's taking the steroids so he can put weight back on (medically, not necessarily to play prop), this can open up a whole can of worms. Personally I doubt it.

The one thing he does have on his side is his ball handling skills, and his ability to run good wide lines. Who knows we may actually see him back in the back row or centres. Good luck all the same.

Good luck to him. Given the right treatment I hope he will be back playing for Wakefield sooner rather than later.
