Who gives stuff about any of that? Why would you care if he proved his doubters wrong in the NRL? Are you saying you would actually prefer him to leave in 12 months time?

We do not want to lose our best player, period. If he wants to go to the NRL when his contract is up fair enough and he would still be plenty young enough but it certainly is not in our teams interest to have him go anywhere in 2013.

No of course I dont want to lose him, I say that in my previous post. The fact is in the near future we could have two richer leagues with more to offer players looking to SL to poach even more of our best. The NRL is definitely the lesser of two evils. If the RFL sit back and refuse to change the current policies then it is highly unlikely Sam is going to see out 4 more years at Wigan.

And to a certain extent I would love to see him rip up the NRL because there are so many fans of other teams who say he couldnt. In a perfect world though I'd have him at Wigan til he hangs his boots up.

I wish Ian Lenagan would take a firm stance with the Tomkins brothers similar to how Tottenham Hotspur dealt with the Luka Modric situation.

People say contracts don't mean anything any more. But they surely can do if people make them mean something. Modric wanted to go to Chelsea. Tottenham refused and said he must honour his contract. In the end there was no alternative for him. It was either continue to play on the big stage in front of packed stadiums and enjoy the adulation of the fans or sulk and be forced to simply train with no competitive football in his life.

There's something seriously wrong if a player in any sport can sign a five year contract and then quit the club 6 months later. If it was up to me, I wouldn't let either of them go - they made a commitment to the club.

But what can we spend this silly money on? If the answer is transfer fee then we may as well keep the player we already have.

We will probably spend some more on youth development but then when the youngsters are developed they will be off and we are back to square one

Feeling disillusioned to say the least :?

It wouldn't be so bad if we could then spend that money on salaries. If we were to get £400 for Joel we could then use some of that as a transfer fee and the rest + Joel's available salary to sign a top draw centre. Unfortunately we can't do that.

Surely it depends on what it would cost us to get someone in though?

If we ended up selling Joel, and paying for a replacement, and still made say 200k off the deal, could many clubs say no to that?

So transfer fees? Which club needs money and has a decent centre?

The only real quality centres in our league are at Warrington and they really don't need the money. Hull have Yeaman but they've just been bank rolled by a wealthy fella.

I'd be holding out for a bit more than that

But agree totally, transfer fees seem to have become almost non-existent within RL since the cap came in, as there's little value in receiving cash if you can't spend it. So, short of being able to find a replacement who is a) available b) good enough, and c) who will fit in the salary cap - you're left with bringing through youngsters. Whilst I have no problem with this in itself, it takes many, many years to develop a player, and if they keep buggering off after 2-3 years in the first team, you're constantly playing catch up.

The talent pool for RL isn't that big either, so you can't rely on there being 'another Sam' to replace him if he went.

It's a tricky one.

Personally, I wouldn't be averse to paying a fee for Cudjoe so long as it wasn't silly money.
