I would agree with this.

Hypothetically speaking if Leuluai was off contract this year, it would be an easy decision in my opinion to release him in order to accommodate a better quality kicker and creater.

Leuluai's got some great qualities but I wasn't jumping for joy like some seemed to when he signed his long-term contract recently. The reason being that he occupies arguably the most important position in the side and I believed that his limitations in such a vital role would hold us back.

Trent Barratt is off contract this time.
If he could be persuded to come over then he would be 6 with Sam going to 7.
We would then have a right sided 6 and a left sided 7.
I wonder of he would fancy it a second time around?
Just somehow I think IL & MM will have their incoming and outgoing players known to themselves by now.
We shall just have to wait and see.

Tommy is not a starting nine, but he could certainly be used as an impact hooker. He has great footwork, speed off the mark & the ability to cause the bigger men some real problems. I agree, he doesn't have the skills necessary to direct our forwards around the park and carry us up the field in the opening exchanges of the match. Mike McIlorum & Mark Riddell both have this ability, but neither provide any problems off the bench for sides because they lack pace and footwork. Tommy has both and would make a fantastic impact hooker IMO & would excel in a side that aims to get a quick POTB.

So if we were to sign a new scrum half this is how I could accommodate Tommy. As for Riddell and McIlorum, unless McIlorum is released - which would be foolish IMO - or Riddell was to leave - highly unlikely IMO - then we don't have much of an option. So this subsequently makes me think that we wont be signing a new seven at all and will go with Stuart Howarth or Joe Mellor as cover or Sean O'loughlin as cover if either gets injured - as we have seen in previous matches this season.

When's Riddell OOC, end of 2011 season? Not that long away anyway really. Long term looking at MM and Tommy as hookers with Sam and A.N.Other.

Mike McIlorum is out of contract this year.

Mark Riddell is out of contract next year.

Tommy is not out of contract till 2012. So MaGuire will be forced IMO to include Tommy in his long term plans due the length of his current contract. That for me means he plays as an impact hooker, with Mike McIlorum starting. Still a lot of improvement from both players needed though.

Just read in Rugby League Week that Luke Bailey will probably head back to St George before heading to the UK. It didn’t say how long he would be at the Dragons for, but I think he is 34 now.

Just to add to my post that means I believe he would be too old even after only a year at the Dragons.
