Re: Rumours and signings v9 : Sun Oct 29, 2017 10:52 am
Two thoughts on these latest posts:

Sutton. Wherever he's going, I trust they'll have a well kitted-out gym, because he's going to have to do a lot more fitness work if he wants to catch the eye in Aus than he seems to do at Wigan (one reason I find this story very, very hard to believe ... unless it's not the NRL, but some lesser league).

Charnley. I get the disappointment with Burgess - he's yet another who went off on his adventures and appeared to return a shadow of his former self. But what makes us think that Charnley, who's about four years older, won't do exactly the same thing? He's barely been noticeable at Sale, so how on Earth is he good enough for Wigan? I think we need to start shutting the door on these lads who leave. No disrespect to them if they want to go; they've got to think of their careers, their bank balances, yadda yadda. But if we keep making deals where there is a door open for them at Wigan if it all goes pear-shaped in those greener pastures, then we give them a safety net and make the decision to leave in the first place even easier. At the same time, we are less able to go looking for really able replacements. Enough's enough for me on that front. I think the original scheme was well-intentioned, but it seems to have backfired. None of the returnees have been any cop. We need to tell Josh that his Wigan days are over.

It wouldn't be nice seeing Charnley in another clubs shirt but we simply don't need him.

As for Sutton, I do rate him but he does strike you as a lad who's in a comfort zone at Wigan. I think he has the talent to make it in the NRL but he's clearly got some areas to work on.

Whatever happens with us, we need to reshape that front row. We need a couple of new props and we need to play our best hooker in that position rather then him playing scrum half.

This, absolutely. Not just in regard to JC, but generally.

A couple of weeks ago I joined a group of French supporters (family reasons) watching Toulouse at Sale. The difference between Solomona and Charnley is vast. Solomona looks right for the part. He was constantly asking for the ball and just appearing in the right place at the right time. Josh looked like the child on the naughty step, he seemed afraid to be away from the touchline. The sooner Josh comes back to where he belongs, the better.

A young wigan prop. He isn't big enough to play NRL at front row, think he may play reserves or feeder club rugby

We would be mad to sign a winger with Manfredi, Burgess, Davies and Marshall on the books. If anything, I'd be looking to sell one for the right fee to free up cap space.

We are looking for a winger I would take any of them 4 and charnley too, his first club will be taking a risk to see if he returns the same or better player that left.

Also nit knowing the ins n outs of the cap would be count on the cap as he is coming from union there was some cap dispensation last year but I'm unsure if he would qualify under it.

As a sport we should accept the returning players back into the game as in general those that go are pretty good rugby players, but I also agree that clubs need to not make it so easy. I personally would like to see young players go over to the nrl for two years to develop learn under different structures and return maybe something can be set up between the two clubs and agreed with the player before hand

We need to think outside of the box on retaining out younger players from the nrl who can afford to speculate and take a punt on players whilst we're struggling to build squads that cannot compete for top honours with 3/4 injuries. The cowboys have offered one of their prospects a 10 year contract on 1m a year we have no way of competing with that.

We have learnt our lesson taking ex players back, especially Union ones. Only Forsyth seems to have bucked the trend although he’s now disappeared.
