No, if he plays a certain undisclosed number of games in 2010, he is guaranteed another year by the club.

The talk of bringing in a replacement for him next year doesn't make sense as in all likelihood Carmont will fulfil that requirement and be here in 2011.

Probably makes a move to Saints a little more likely for Shenton which wouldn't be anywhere near the disaster some seem to make it out to be. A good player with potential to get better but the sad reality is that making the England 3/4 line does not equal 'world class'. Right now it simply means the best of an average bunch.

I'm convinced we could do better in the future than Shenton with either a recruit from overseas or the development of Thornley or Marsh. I'd also be interested to see how a high in confidence Daryl Goulding would go if he was moved inside from the wing.

Carmont seems to go down injured every single match these days, I cant see him wanting to stay on for another year or even IL keeping him on, the fact that we are linked so strongly to Shenton shows we are looking for a new centre for next year. IMO this will be his last season!

Do you think he'll just give up on another contract ? No chance.

If he passes the certain amount of games then he will be staying. Wigan have no say in the matter (unless you give him a nice pay off on the side).

Sorry to push the point but how will it be his last season?

Its not Lenagan's call - Carmont has a guaranteed contract for next year if he plays x amount of games. Why on earth would Carmont want to get out of that himself when he has a secure year of income lined up for possibly the last time as he approaches retirement?

Very good imo.

He's a big lad height wise but has a little room for bulking up imo and i'm sure that our conditioning team can get that extra few percent out of him. He's solid as a rock defensively when i've seen him and has good footwork. He would thrive at a bigger club imo just like he did in the international set up. He didn't look at all out of place in the four nations.

Add all that into the fact we'd get 7 or 8 seasons out of him and he'd be a really shrewd move.

I've been told we've got a very good chance of landing Shenton AND Westerman. It's not from one of my regular sources so I'll reserve judgement for the time being.

Although it wouldn't be ideal, surely we'd have enough space on the cap next year (through releasing big earners or putting them on reduced contracts) that I can't see us wanting any other position (desperately) other than prop, so for the sake of a year would it not be possible to have shenton, carmont and gleese on the books vying for 2 centre spots. Good cover across the back line with the probable release of Phelps?

I think Goulding is a better winger than he is centre anyway, thought that before he started playing out there. He could always finish, it was his distribution to his winger and his defence that was suspect, I reckon it'll be between him and Ainscough for the wing spot next year.
