Ray Cashmere is a good player, but is contracted till 2011.

Out of all the British players out of contract I would go for Jamie Langley. A future prop forward if ever I saw one. He doesn't have the skills to play in the loose forward position and finally McNamara has seen this and moved him to the second row, but his attacking and defensive work rate is that of a prop forward. He has the size and power to excel in this position. I think he's a future regular test international and would be an awesome signing for the future years because at 26 he is coming to his peak IMO. Andy Coley and Stuart Fielden aren't going to get much better IMO and I wouldn't complain if we were to move for him as a replacement for one of the two.

The only problem is that I can't see him leaving Bradford.

Spot on mate!

Langley would be a monster for us and although i'm a massive Andy Coley fan I'd happy replace him with Langley.

In fact I'd go as far as saying Langley is a younger version of Coley.

Top, top signing.

I rate him too. I would happily release Harrison Hansen (and Phil Bailey will most likely retire or leave) and use the cash there to make a move for Langley. In the first season he would probably play at second row - he would make a far great workhorse than Hansen - and eventually I think he could move to prop when he reaches that peak age of around 28+.

Having Langley, Hock, Mossop and Tomkins in the same team is a frightening prospect.

I'm sure Langley wouldn't come cheap but i still think we would be able to fit him under the cap without losing a talented player like Hansen.

Firstly we can't have spent the whole of Hocks wage could we? Deacon will be on ok money and upgrades to the likes of Sam and Mossop will have taken a chunk of it but i can't see us having no left either.

I'd let Feka go giving us another chunk and with Fielden on possibly reduced wages that's more money in the pot. Deacons wage if he retires as planned should cover for Hocks mid season return although again I'll doubt he'll even be on that much at the start. That still leaves Carmont and Baileys wage and future in the air also.

Although a lot of the above is pure speculation I don't think it's to crazy in things I've said either.

I think it's very exciting for the future of the club when you look at the fact that we do have quite a few big earners coming off contract this year, which will enable us to increase the strength of the team even more so for 2011. I don't see any reason why we cant afford a couple of quality signings for next year. You've pretty much spelt out what needs to happen in your post above.

Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.

On a slightly unrelated note, did you know that Jonny Walker has the lowest body fat percentage at Wigan?

Personally I'd rather drop Fielden (yes the new improved one) and let Langley and Mossop fight for the ambiguous prop/second row spot and the prop spot Fielden would leave.

Thos two between them must surely have enough left over to entice Langley and with a little bit for upgrades?

If Wigan wanted him we could most likely fit him under the cap with 11 players coming off contract - several top earners like Fielden & Feka - and I would wager we could probably entice him with the promise of better coaching, facilities and a healthy contract.

For me Fielden would go. He is long past his best - even if he has shown some life this season - and will give us a chunk of the salary cap to play with. Andy Coley is a plodder and IMO is playing to his absolute best. We've done well to get what we have out of him. People were really critical of him in his early days at Wigan & he certainly wasn't a big game signing that we are used to. If we're struggling for forwards then I would keep him on another year.

Langley would be a direct replacement for Harrison Hansen. He does exactly the same job, but is ten times better. Hansen is nothing but a solid pro. Dependable, but has no attacking threat at all, but is awesome in defence. Langley is much tougher, bigger and experienced & can do the same job in defence. With Joel Tomkins being the attacking threat, I don't think it's that bad we have a carthorse who will hurt defences for 80 minutes and carry us down the field. Lee Mossop and Gareth Hock (should he return and hit the ground running) will then really cause teams trouble from the bench. This is how I see it.

Paul Prescott should be hitting peaking in the next couple of years so I would resign him. Get him bulked up and watch his loose carries and we will have a great dependable prop. I haven't seen enough of Ben Davies to know how he will do.

Lee Mossop is a couple of years away from playing prop. He needs to mature and gain some match experience first. He is playing more up front this season because of the lack of quality we have in the forwards. Our backs are breaking their backs covering for them.

Gareth Hock is another hopeful for the forwards. Ripping it up doing some boxing and has apparently bulked up, but he has had two years out the game. I don't think he is going to have such an impact in 2011 when he returns mid-season. It will take a while before he gets back up to speed.

If we can get two new prop forwards for next season I will be happy. We need a big strong cart horse that will cause some real damage to teams in the opening exchanges - the sort of role Carvell plays at Warrington and a similar one Scott Logan played for us. Then we need a pack leader who will lead from the front and be the feared mongrel in the side - like Adrian Morley/Jamie Peacock for Warrington/Leeds & what Stuart Fielden is trying to do at the moment - except he is not feared. If we can't find a suitable improvement on either Coley/Fielden - which I would be very suprised with MaGuire's knowledge of the NRL - then by all means extend the contracts of the pair of them.

Feka Paleaasina I think his days are numbered. We are a team that is drilled on our defence and are super fit. Feka's qualities are neither. MaGuire dropped him after what looked like a good performance against St.helens. He clearly doesn't rate him IMO. It's a shame because he is a real fans favourite, but as it stands he is heading elsewhere.

If Paleaasina was available for 2011, I actually think there would be very few Super League clubs who wouldn't be interested.

A NRL club or two might be willing to take a gamble with him as well. Despite his weaknesses, he has game-breaking plays in him and players who have those will always be of interest.

That would make Wigan strong favourites then. With Ratchford at FB and Patton with Cronk in the halves, I think we'll do very well without Sam.

whilst you are right in saying feka has game breaking plays in him, i would suggest to you that almost all the wigan first team also do. the main difference with them and feka is those plays could be both attacking or defending, where as feka can only really change a game in attack.
