Yes people can express their views but considering barley anyone on this board knows what's happened there is no point.

The culprits will be dealt with and we don't need this thread for that.

The thread is giving the group a bad name when only the idiots who were involved deserve that name

i suggest you read the entire thread. it has gone from talking about 1 incident to this whole brigantes rubbish which is very relevant to ALL wigan fans

Nope. It's a forum and it's a discussion. Sometimes it's good to get things like this out in the open and everyone can learn something from other peoples opinions.

But his opinion is surely worth just as much. Hypothetically, if they could get thousands of fans involved by ditching the use of the word ultras or changing some of the logos I'm pretty sure they'd do it.
I'm guessing the 'brand' isn't bigger or more important than what their aim is.

I think that sometimes when someone aims criticism that way then the response, while perhaps understandable given that they don't wish to be associated with something that they weren't involved with, can sometimes be antagonistic, which isn't helping their cause.

Hang on - I'm not sure people are against that "The Brigantes" want to achieve. As I said earlier, the flags and atmosphere created has been great, certainly better than it has been in recent years. I applaud what they have done. Wigan RL is the world's premier RL club, and as such, needs a great set of supporters.

I hope that clears that up.

However, I think some people, myself included, aren't comfortable with this creation of a "label" to distinguish a bunch of people who appear (to some of us anyway) to want to be the 'elite' clique of supporters. To me it seems a bit childish in an "I'm more committed than you - look I'm a Brigante!" type of way.

I appreciate, however, that this may not have been the intention. But that's
certainly the perception.

A 'elite' clique that despite me not really noing any of the members I was made to feel very welcome by all involved on there coach last week and in the crowd with them

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

I don't understand why this has carried on so long. Somebody who was nothing to do with the group spraypainted something.... what can we do? We will police it better in future and that puts an end to it in my opinion.

If you don't like what we do or the way we do it then ignore us, don't post on this thread, don't look at us and don't join in, that is your choice. We are not making anyone join us or sing songs, or wave a flag.

Added to that I refuse to let the group be tarnished with the same brush as one idiot. The judgemental stereotypes on this thread say more about the people writing those posts then the people they are attempting to describe.

I've read the entire thread. And it's pointless.

If people are in disagreement with the group, don't get involved; but don't start criticizing hard work done by others.

Im not a fan of the ultras gimmick because of the stigma it receives, but its all uneducated hoo ha.
In English supporting terms, an ultra is a fan who supports their club in extroidanary ways. Ie, with flags and constant singing. The word is from latin origin meaning to beyond the norm. The Brigantes go beyond the norm to support the club, hence the term. The Brigantes is simply a name with which we can be known by and can market.

The Wigan fans have always been criticised for a poor atmosphere and then when a good one arrives, fellow fans want to be little it and see it crumble. Thats frustrating il admit, but each to their own.

ul·tra
adj.
Immoderately adhering to a belief, fashion, or course of action; extreme.
n.
An extremist.

I don't think there is anything uneducated about peoples dislike of this term at all. If people attach yourselves with such a tainted term, they should expect their fair share of stick.

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.

Merely pointing out that i was expressing my opinion, and not speaking for others, or expecting others to speak on my behalf.

What if people like all the hard work that they are doing and the great atmosphere they create at games yet have one or two issues they like to discuss? That seems to have been the case for a few people on this thread, including myself.

Surely it isn't a case of you're either with them or against them?
