We were linked with Gubb last year. I watched him closely at the time. He is a very raw boned forward. Former Union schoolboy international at Flanker I think.
I always like the Props that convert from Union flankers as they tend to have pace, be a decent size, strong work ethic and enjoy the physical stuff. This pretty much sums up Gubb but I'm not really sure he is what we need upfront. He puts in tons of tackles but at the sacrifice of go forward and despite being an NRL player he is still a bit of a project.
If FPN is on his way, which I hope he is due to his lack of consistency even though I do think he is great when he is "on", then the player without doubt I would want us to go for and who is available by all accounts is Nate Myles.
Myles is as tough as they come, has that presence that a Prop needs in the same way Pongia and Smith had and he is also a proven leader.
Back on the topic of FPN I can't help but wonder what a player and career he could have had. He has all the weapons in his arsenal to be top class but throughout his career he seems to lack the mental conditioning to consistently deliver week in week out. Real shame.
