I've only chimed into this thread late, so apologies if this has already been said, but I wish we would stop talking about signing players like McGoldrick and Dobson. We have our next 'big name' halfback already playing, and if he's a little bit raw, the only way he'll overcome that is by getting reasonably regular first-team action.
For Wigan to kick on to the next stage, we need to stop considering average overseas players. Okay, maybe that's a little harsh on McGoldrick and Dobson, but when this overseas quota finally comes down to a sensible number, only average teams will be including overseasers of that calibre on their books. Yes, McGoldrick and Dobson will play well and occasonally give really superb performances, but the reality is that our overseas slots should only go to top quality Aussies, not willing lads who can't get clubs in the NRL.
I feel that, signing either of these players at the moment would be a big step backwards. Sam wasn't brilliant last Friday, but he wasn't totally out of his depth either. I say keep him in the first team and let's see what happens.
