According to the Cas board Saints have offered him hell of a lot of money. Eggs in one basket?
If we did sign Shenton, presumably as a replacement for Carmont, what message would that send out to the young lads coming through? I think the lad is very promising but I wouldn't call him top drawer, not yet anyway.

It seems Wigan fans are very split on this matter and I agree to the message above.
Look Mike MaGuire will know exactly who he wants and how much he thinks someone is worth. Ian Lenagan is also a very shrewd businessman when it comes to signing players. Both will only want and pay for someone for what they are worth. Shenton is nowhere near World Class and is not worth splashing out on. We don't need to splash out on a centre - we need a top draw prop forward.
I think if Wigan don't go for him then I think it will be a combination of Shenton costing too much and us having faith in our own young lads. Ian Thornley and Stefan Marsh are two wonderful talents. Who isn't to say they will be one of our centres for the next ten years? Darrell Goulding is on fire this season and given ago who isn't to say he could be our centre for the next ten years? We have quality talents here at the club and so we aren't in a position where we are desperate for a centre, so we don't need to be chucking daft money around for someone like Shenton.
If Saints do get Shenton I am not worried. Compared to last years rumoured signings for them like Jamie Lyon I am pretty relaxed. Now if Saints were to bring in a top prop forward to partner James Graham, then I would be a little more concerned.
Providing nothing extreme happens then we will have George Carmont for another year and I am happy with that. He is still a very good centre and one of the best in the league. It gives us an extra year to see how Thornley and Marsh are coming along & to see how Darrell Goulding shapes out. I still believe that he could be a top draw Wigan centre for the next few years. He's been outstanding at the moment and has really tightened up his defence. Madge is a great backs coach and has obviously helped him out in this area. He never missed a tackle when given a shot against Hull FC in the centres. Scored an absolute blinder as well.
I wouldn't worry as a Wigan fan. Look what happened with Danny Orr. We all thought he was the bees knees and it turned out he wasn't. We have some talented lads at the club at the moment and I am more than happy to see how they develop. We are not desperate for a centre we need a prop forward! I think having Stuart Fielden with a top draw prop forward like Shane Tronc for example would be awesome. I really hope this year prop is the area we are going all out for. Our backs are doing an awesome job in helping out the forwards, but wouldn't it be nice if we had an awesome pack being helped by our strong backs in Pat Richards and Amos Roberts?!. Fui Fui Moi Moi going to Warrington scares me a lot more than Michael Shenton going to St.helens. We don't need him.
