Who do you vote for mate? Just out of interest like.
Well, at the risk of being controversial (which i can be) because i will speak my mind, my answer is a little convoluted. I haven't voted for years.
Being a northerner from a working class town and being a working class man (steel industry) i kind of feel it's my obligation to vote Labour. The issue with that for me though is my choices have been Jeremy Corbyn and Kier Starmer. For me neither of them have a clue what the Labour party is and what it is for. It lost it's identity a long time ago and is too London-centric and middle class. I feel as though nobody is fighting our corner. Just giving out soundbites around election time and visiting deprived areas giving out false promises and hope to people with nothing and making out that their fortunes will change almost overnight. Too many public services have become privatised, something the Labour party started in the 90's when they started auctioning off parts of the NHS and something the Tories have carried on with but smashed far too many public sectors by doing so. Socialist economics is losing the battle to big businesses and the little man loses out every time which plays into the Conservative mantra of making the rich richer and keeping the poor at the bottom. Jeremy Corbyn, i don't think i ever heard anything positive from him in all his time as leader. Kier Starmer is just a chancer who criticizes every move the government makes (as leader of the opposition, so he should) but never comes up with any solutions. Just tells them they are doing it wrong. Labour needs a shake up, a complete overhaul. It needs to get back to it's roots and remember why it was there in the first place if it want's it's voters back.
I can't vote for the conservatives, How can anybody vote for Boris Johnson, lies, law breaking and completely out of touch with the voter. Every situation they are handed, they deal with it in the worst possible way and the general public have to (usually) pay for their mess. If you are brought up with a silver spoon in your mouth, go to Oxbridge, protest a bit when you are a student and be completely out of touch with reality you can guarantee they will be budding Conservative politicians. Iv'e steadily been worse off since we had a conservative government.
So where do i go? The (not so) Liberal Democrats, the protest vote, The party that said they would ignore any referendum results no matter how many times they were done (whether you agree with the result or not) and push their own agenda regardless of the voter. So not Liberal or Democratic.
So outside the big 3 we are left with solo individuals and loonatics who have no chance of being elected to anything.
To me, voting is pointless. The old adage that they all pi$$ in the same pot rings true. It's not what they can do for us, it's what they can do for them. They get into positions of power and just willfully abuse it. Almost every week there is some sort of scandal in a political party caused by corruption and abuse of power. I find the whole process a waste of everybody's time. Nobody really wants to implement change for the better, ot for us anyway.
