Are we OK for wingers though? I thought we were because I thought we may go with Field there. If you are right and he can't play wing then I think we are only an injury away from having problems. I'm not saying Hanley and Halsall won't make it, but I think they need time on loan/DR in the Championship before they play Super League again. Would not like either to be one injury away from playing every week, especially with Manfredi's record.

could play Field FB and French wing

We could, but I hate the idea of our best attacking threat having less influence over the game.

That would be a terrible use of the cap.

The priority must be a Prop, then if we have room a winger. If not we have plenty of combinations in the backs which mean we can run with the backs we have and still be ok.

Spot on. Prop first anything else later

A good prop and a project type wing/utility back would be ideal. It does feel like they’re trying to jig the balance of the squad around with the players rumoured to have been told they can look elsewhere. Once the 12th Superleague club is announced, that should lead to activity around the league.

I think Field will be better than French at FB which is scary, quicker and better hands

Saying a guy with less than 20 first team games will be better than an MOS candidate is a massive call. I'll be happy if he is good enough to nail down a regular spot in the 13.

Fields a complete unknown, could be great, could be terrible, just don’t know enough about him and unless somebody is an avid follower of the Aussie reserve grades, they’re unlikely to be much the wiser. We’re lucky that Lammy probably is well aware of his talent from the reserve grades and junior representative teams. He looks rapid on the highlights reels on YouTube, so that’s a positive.

Looking forward to seeing how he goes.

That's how I see it. Hanley Jr would look like a superstar from his academy highlights reel too but I'm not about to crown him better than French either. If someone with limited first team appearances becomes worth a regular spot then that is a win IMO.

At the last nines series in Aus both Field and Dufty were talked up as future stars. Both similar attributes fast good skills to cover half’s or full back but both small in stature. Dufty got his chance and had some rave reviews last season, Field on the out went to Parra and had limited game time. When he was in the half’s as injury cover he played a simple game but he was ok in defence.

How they sort out the French, Tommy, Hastings, Smith, Field conundrum is an headache for Lam but he must have had an idea of where to fit Field in the squad when he was signed.
