Fwiw though I don't see it. They've both got long term Wigan contracts and no disrespect to the people posting these rumours but I'm sure the odd paper would have picked up on these beforehand.

We'll have to deal with these rumours for the whole time they're at Wigan. If and when they decide to go we must try our best to make sure it's to the NRL even if we lose out on a transfer fee. Let the RFL pay us a fee for us helping to keep them in the game.

I'm sure Faz isn't the only one who watches RL at Saracens.

Hypothetically if an RU club did want Sam or Joel would the amount of money it costs to acquire them count on their cap? I dont know how much they are on but I would be suprised if an RU club would be willing to risk about a fifth of their salary cap on signing a player from RL.

Transfer fees don't count on the cap in either code.

If any of this is true then if i was IL i would not bother with a youth system ever again or even give out a 5 year contract to a player. It really shows with Eastmond going to Bath all the cap has done is slowly kill off RL in this country. If a side decides they cant afford more than the cap then thats their problem. But unforunately its becoming a major problem for clubs that can afford it and that develops talent.

Just an idea and i know with 1 or 2 ppl this wont be popular. Dont go and watch any internationals again until the cap is changed. RFL needs to understand that the cap has not levelled out the competition in SL. Cas, Wakey, Quins are continually not in the play offs even with 8 teams in them. Or is it time for a SL breakaway from the RFL and get rid of the sides that cant afford to keep up or refuse to up the cap. Pretty sure you could get 12-13 team SL who would accept a higher cap.

Wigan, Saints, Leeds, Hull, Widnes, Salford, Giants, HKR, Halifax, Catalan, Bulls, Fev and a franchise in Cumbria. If the perennial underspending clubs dont want SL to improve and keep the cap under then kick them out of SL as its killing the game. I can understand a player going to the NRL for 2-3 years as its the best comp in the game.

Or here is another idea it will only take 1 player to challenge the cap in the European Court and the cap will be either dropped in the court or changed by the RFL. Its time for us to stop worrying if clubs like Cas and Wakey can afford to stay in SL and for us to put RL first for a chance i am sure Tigertot will agree with me its better for RFL to have player like Easmond, Ashton in its ranks than keep Cas in SL if they cant afford a higher cap. After all we must put RL first.

To be fair giving a player a 5 year deal will mean that for a player to get nicked the scum nicking him will have to pay good money at least. I agree with what you say to a certain extent too. Look at the state of the RU premiership, its poop and they get worse tv viewing figures than us but the international game is massive and theres where that sport pulls a lot of fans in. They have the whole country near enough backing them in a world cup but we have one of our best players getting booed playing for his country. If a random person watched an England RU world cup/6 nations match then watched that England vs Exiles match to see an English player being booed at home they would mickey themselves and think what a tin pot sport and who could blame them.

Transfer Fee is useless for improving a squad as you cant use it on salary and no one hardly sells a player now until their contract runs out.

It has been screaming out for the RFL to implement a system whereby players who have come through a team's youth system only have a % of their wages count on the cap. It's the only way I can see we can prevent our top talent from switching codes. It's almost 5 years since we had this with Ashton and still nothing has been done. The NRL had a problem with losing players to other codes and they are countering this with an increase in the salary cap. If this isn't an option there has to be something brought in to allow clubs to keep the young English players they have spent alot of time and money on developing, we're not just a feeder pool for rugby union!
