Ok we know hes done wrong and we all have our own opinions but I cant understand the fact that yes he has allegedly taken coke but surely where is his common sense in all this. Surely he knew the consequences if he did get caught so why take the drug when he knew he would be playing.......It takes about 3/4 days to get out of the system

Well actually it is........

Assuming ofc you condone taking drugs.

To be fair, I'm not sure anyone's laying the blame at IL's door for Hock doing coke - just saying that he needs to get a grip of the club. To me, we're just drifting into complete mediocrity & it really doesn't help when one of the relatively senior players displays such a lack of discipline as this. Apart from anything else - cocaine isn't a drug you do at home in front of the telly, so he clearly thought it was OK to go out on the razz within 3 days of a game (if a post on another thread about how long it stays in your wee for is true). Irrespective of him getting caught by a drugs test, am I completely old-fashioned in thinking that the players should be looking after themselves physically - even if he was just drinking 10 pints of lager it would be wrong.

The problem is that the impression you get from outside is that there are too many players who think they've 'made it' just by playing for Wigan, rather than actually achieving anything - kind of like Liverpool in the mid-90's. It's this aspect which I, and others I think, want to see an end to.

After the chaos this morning I've had a bit of time to think about it.

From a personal point of view, I presume Hock's actions have finally caught up with him and this may the first time that he will have openly admitted to taking drugs in front of his family which along with the public embarressment will be devastating for them all. They don't deserve the humiliation and I'm sure Gareth will be going through most his punishment as we speak.

Forgetting about Rugby League and forgetting the impact it might have had on Wigan RL, I hope it's true that for his sake he is going to get some help and maybe some rehab and I wish him all the best with his recovery. To be honest, his future involvement with the club is irrelevant at the moment. Judging by reports, it seems as though he's admitted what he's done and he wants to do something about it.
Good post.

Initially there will be plenty of people jumping on Hock.

There will be anger from Wigan fans who will feel he has let their club down.

There will be anger from many RL fans who feel he has let the game down.

There will also be plenty of stick from opposition fans who love to hate Hock and Wigan.

The fact is that now this is out, he has the chance to sort himself out and then if he proves himself, he should get back into the game after two years like others have done.

My only concern with things like this is that loads of people are happy to take coke on a regular basis, and don't consider themselves to have a problem. Suddenly when they are caught, they admit to having a problem, go into rehab and call on support from everyone. Matt Stevens in Union was an example of playing the sympathy card after getting caught. Had Stevens for example not have got caught would he have owned up at some stage?

I wonder whether players in these instances actually feel they have a drugs problem, or a money problem (ie. they have been sacked).

A bad week for the club and what a waste of talent. I don't condone his actions, or those who are playing the whole 'aww' facade. He run the risks of messing up his career, and having the audacity to think he can get away with it aswell, utter dis-respect for all other pro athletes. However, I find it a bit strange to say the least that characters from Hull can stamp on people's heads in the street and carry on with their careers. That wasn't a dig at Hull KR or Cockayne. But Gareth run the risks and will now pay the price, the question is how will he react.

The ironic thing is that Gaz was by far and away one of our better players , yet still doing coke. What does it say for the rest of the team?

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions

One thinks that Mr. Lenagan will need a bigger venue than the South Stand for the next Fans Forum. (That's if we manage to get any tickets with all the Wire Fans).
