Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions

Re: Rumours and signings v9 : Sun Mar 27, 2016 10:40 am
It's been a while since Stefan Ratchford was mentioned on this thread (or maybe I've just missed it).

Top quality utility back and maybe being pushed to the fringes at Wire with their current set up? Think he'd go really well at Wigan and he's a local lad.

It's been fun.

Ratch is currently our hooker as Dwyer is out for 8 weeks.

He has played every position except prop for us.

I remember a Wigan player called Panapa, i think he played EVERY position though, may be wrong guess some of you older posters will remember.

btw
hands off ;-)

Sam Panapa, what a signing he turned out to be, wherever he played he seemed completely at home in the position.
Every team needs a Sam Panapa.

At times I wonder if we are trying to put together an entire team of utility style players under the current set up!

In relation to the most likely vacant wing spot next year I hope we are monitoring Tom Johnson. Firstly I hope he stays at Wakefield for a long time however if he was to come on the market he has the potential to be a very good winger, few weaknesses to work on but bags of raw potential.

I could only see him moving if Wakefield go down, which I hope doesn't happen but I think it is a situation we should be keeping an eye on.

Johnstone's try on Friday was unbelievable! Sam Tomkins-esque. What a great talent.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

Jonh,
If Charnley does go would you prefer Carney or Johnson to take his place? You obviously see more of Johnson than we do.

It is a difficult one Rogues. Johnson brings the ball back very well has tons of heart and a great work ethic and is deceptively strong. Positionally he struggles at times but his style of play suits the current Wigan system of using outside backs as meter makers.

Carney is a beast and I am sure in our system he would do very special things. I've heard from various sources Carney is a done deal but from others Salford will be retaining him.

As I said earlier I hope Johnson is at Wakefield for many years to come as the club needs to start retaining and promoting the quality youth players.

Johnson would be another project signing, Carney the end product. Being greedy and given the fact Sarg is off as well I would like both....if Wakefield are relegated, which hopefully they are not.

I have often in the past criticised out protocol of "chasing rainbows" in relation to young players and project signings so being consistent if it came down to a choice of 2 it would be Carney.

Longwinded answer my friend but a tough one.

Outstanding performance again from Johnson today, 2 try saving tackles a break leading to a try and more good yards. The more I see him the more I lean towards him over Carney.

It's possible that Josh will stay. I think he's the type of lad who needs to be shown a little 'love and understanding'. Maybe that isn't Waney's strong suit, I don't know. But it would be great if the fans were to keep supporting Josh like they did last night (and that was before the two interception tries), and the club saw fit to offer him an improved contract.

Charnley went for his medical last week apparently - very unlikely he'll stay.
