Bailey seems to be the name on everyones lips. He's possibly the leader we've been looking for at prop for a while although Coley has been excellent with his leadership this season as well. I'm also sure Madge will be sounding out a few names as well. I'd love us to unearth a gem from the Aussie reserves.
As far as a utilty half goes I'd just keep Phelps on as with his history as a 6 there aren't that many positions he can't play in the backline. I really wanna see how Mcilorum develops over the next 12 months and any new HB would push him out.
Shenton is the guy I'm really getting excited about. For me signing a 23 year old current England centre is the kind of move I've been hoping we'd make for a while. Shenton isn't the finished article by any means he needs to work on getting more assists, he only had 4 last year, but his defence is excellent and he's got a top notch try scorring record as well.
I'd say he's got the potential to have an impact at Wigan on par with what Senior has had at Leeds. Quality signing.

But pretty much all of those qualities also apply to Goulding, who presumably would cost a lot less and is already familiar with the Wigan setup. Personally, I'd be disappointed if Darryl lost out to Shenton.

I certainly wouldn't as Shenton is, IMO, a better talent compared to Goulding. I don't think Goulding could have forced his way into the England side if would have been at Cas last season.
For me Shenton played well in the four nations seeing it was his first taste of a proper international RL game. His a big talent

Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid. Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal. Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.
I would like to see Shenton and a marque prop from the NRL, Bailey looks a good player but I would love us to sign Ben Cross from Newcastle, would have worked with Madge when he played for Melbourne. He is a rough tough prop who will take it in all day at speed and looks like a right mean git!
We need to tie Mossop up unto a long deal maybe 4 or 5 years that's a priority, in 5 years he will be the best prop in Superleague (if he stays over here ), bold statement I know and you can quote me on it.
One thing we need to learn from the 2004 to 2006 era is that we can;t just lose all of our experienced players like we did back then because we know what happened.
Our young prospects now are like they were back then if not better IMO with the good young lads coming through in Briscoe, Wild, Brown, Robinson, Hock, O'Loughlin etc we now have Tomkins brothers, Mossop, Goulding, O'Carroll, Ainscough etc.
At the end of this season there is a chance we could lose Fielden, Feka, Carmont, Coley, Bailey and Deacon, we can't lose all that experience. We need to be very smart and keep a few of them at least. I would let Fielden go and bring in Bailey/Cross and keep Coley, I know Fielden has been playing well this season but I would still get rid.

Havent we already got two centres? martin gleesons still on contract till 2012 and isnt george carmont on a deal where if he plays a certain number of games then he gets a year extension?
Imo i think fielden will stay on a MUCH lower wage, i think they'll use his wage cut to increase the wages of younger players. I dont think we will resign Bails or Feka either. Imo we could be looking at signing another prop forward. A big nasty Barsteward.

Of replacments Feka appears most vulnerable at present. Fielden is good and worth keeping with a mutually beneficial contract same with Coley. With the available cash a new prop could be afforded who would suit MM's requirements.
Of others Pryce also seems vulnerable. He doesn't appear to be anywhere near a first team appearance which he needs to show whether he is worth a new contract. I do feel we may lose perhaps one experienced player but who knows. Also, if Deacon comes off the playing register then there's money available there as well for an incoming threequarter, half back or both.
I can well believe that there will be changes for 2011 and I'm sure they will bring about an improvement to the squad.
